Charlie,
I have been taking all my Contender frames apart, cleaning good, replacing hammer springs, tuning triggers and have had no problem getting them back together. The trick I used was to take a lot of digital pics of EVERY step and from every angle. I have learned a lot more about the operation of a Contender. I have also eliminated most of my misfire problems and have reduced my group size even with my OLDER EYES.
Once you get the trigger assembly out of the frame, Pull the trigger, the spring that returns the trigger when you release it is the little spring that can fly away. This spring can be shortened (very little amounts at a time) or replaced with one of equal length out of a bic lighter. I know this will cause a lot of varying opinions, but I have shot thousands of rounds and never had one fail. Keep the original, you can always return it if you don't like the bic spring. The spring fits in a hole under the trigger, once the trigger itself is removed you will see the hole. Very easy to understand once you have it apart.
Hope this helps
Safe shooting
Doug
