I thank you for the link, Dempsey as a western man who worked with his hands, grew up poor, and was the last of the bare-knuckle fighters has always been my greatest sports hero.  I've read biographies but not having cable I have never seen actual footage of his fights.  You can bet I'll be spending a lot of time on youtube now that I'm aware of it.
Thanks again

o3a2. Wasn't the o3a2 a 2 groove bbl?? I had an o3a3 many years ago. Your welcome for the link. Jack broke my uncle Jims nose, flattened it. Jim always thought he could whip Jack and knocked him down sparring one day. Jack grinned at him and said, one more round. He never saw the punch coming and realized that Jack had always taken it easy on him. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

I came up with my user name based on my favorite rifle in the world, my grandads 03,  it must have been an armory rebuild because it has a mismatch of parts - stamped floorplate yet the elaborate ladder sight, a 42 barrel, and a "c" type stock.  I thought I was being clever by making up a model "A2", but later found that there actually did exist a model A2 that is rare, something about artillery training, perhaps a rimfire conversion?  Memory fails.
Anyway, my favorite Dempsey story was the one about making the young sports reporter by sparring with him, despite his trainers insistance that he not do so because the kid might be a ringer for the other guy.  I forget the reporters name but apparantly they were long time friends after that.  The reporters reasoning was that he needed first hand knowledge of a heavy punch if he was expected to write about it.  I respect that also.
