Uberti SAA sight slot
« on: October 03, 2012, 09:55:24 AM »
I've got a Uberti American Buntline that has been cut down to 5 1/8". The problem I'm having is that I'm not sure of how to cut the new front sight slot?  It's an original style with a rounded bottom, no dovetail.  I could put it in my Smithy sideways and use a keyhole cutter on the side (top) of the barrel, but is that the best way?
Thanks,

I use a cape chisel to cut a slot and undercut to receive the blade. The edges are then peened back into place. Pretty old school ans low tech..

That's just what I was wondering, sounds much easier than setting it up in the machine.
Thanks Gunnut!
