Pot plants as big as trees. This'll get some of ya drooling.
« on: October 03, 2012, 04:20:49 PM »
Chicago pot farm’s plants as big as trees  Chicago pot farm’s plants as big as trees Chicago pot farm’s plants as big as trees by ABC News  WHAS11.com Posted on October 3, 2012 at 9:27 PM      (ABC News) -- Urban farming is usually thought of as a niche business for high-end food produce.  In Chicago, it has taken on a new meaning.
Police in a helicopter stumbled upon what may be the largest outdoor pot farm in the city’s history.   Planted in rows and spread over an area the size of two football fields, as many as 1,500 plants averaging 6-feet tall were growing amidst heavy brush in an industrial area on the city’s South Side.

“This would not be visible from the street,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy at a press conference today. “It’s surrounded by a huge field that you wouldn’t see anywhere (but) from the air. ”

He estimated the hidden pot to be worth $7 million to $10 million.
The discovery was noteworthy not only for the size of the growing area but for the size of the plants themselves, some as tall as Christmas trees, according to police.  ”Usually you see a marijuana plant that’s 3-feet high.  These resemble plants that you’d see out in California, running anywhere from 4-foot to 8-foot high,” said Nick Roti, head of the Chicago Police Organized Crime Bureau.

There was camping equipment on the scene thought to be used by the grower or dealer to guard the illegal farm.  Officials believe the plants were within few weeks of being harvested.  “The guess is these were probably planted in the spring,” said McCarthy.
Police will haul out the marijuana and burn it at a disposal site used by the bomb and arson squad.

But McCarthy said the importance of this discovery is more than just finding and destroying so much pot.  Busts like this put “the squeeze on the finances of organizations” whose drug profits spread violence.
“Whoever harvests this marijuana is obviously running a large-scale operation,” McCarthy explained.  “And at the same time the profits from that will be used to purchase firearms. And that’s where the violence comes in- is the competition for the markets.”

When I read it I first thought "how can you get a plant as big as a tree in a pot?" The damage done? ear

A few years ago, I bought a house and some acreage..while walking the fence lines I noticed some weeds with leaves like those pictured, not as large as those, but still the same leaves. I still don't know for sure what it was ...but I watered it down with Roundup anyway.

Recently, about 30 miles from me there was a news story which may have hit national news.  A fellow came from Virginia and killed a school superintendant..  A "triangle" which wasn't..the guy's wife/girlfriend was communicating on the internet with the superintendant.
Anyway a reporter from a buffalo news crew interviewed a teacher from the school..in her own back yard.  Seems she was standing by her loco-weed crop during the interview.. :P
The Narco folks watch the news too...she was soon wearing a new pair of  shiny bracelets!  ;) ;D ;D

Years ago had a friend who did a little gardening. He took me to see his pride and joy, it was so big that I didn't even see it until I seen the chicken wire that was around it. The thing had to be between 16' and 20' tall, the base stalk was bigger than a softball.

Six feet is not a big plant. Just drive around about anywhere in NW Kansas in the fall and if there has been decent moisture you will see hundreds of 8-12 foot wild plants. These are still from the old WWI days hemp growing. They contain almost no THC. Some years back my wife's father found a patch on his farm property, pulled them up and filled his pick up bed with them. He drove around about a week this way before disposing of them. Never raised an eyebrow.

Some Blue Bell (make mine Rocky Road) is a wonderful thing... esp after a bowl of one of God's Herbs.
why have only one? Oh, yeah... with one of them, you have to worry about federal or local thugs with badges kicking in your door and possibly killing you, because you consume something they don't approve of. Such behavior is an excellent reason for keeping an AK clone handy, with a mag full of FMJ.

I love Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla!  There was time in my life, when I loved Pot/hash/smack/downers/uppers/Hallucigens,et al....BC (Before Christ) I tell you, I wish I had never, ever messed with any of it, but hey, people are going to do it, and drug use (of any flavor) is always going to have bad consequences on the vast majority who either use it, sell it or live around it.
Sure, A person can do whatever they want....but if they break the law, there are consequences, and I still think its better to pay a fine or do jail time than "make a last stand" with an AK ,ha. Of course, if masked men kicked my door down, unannounced, well, I don't have a problem with me or anyone else following G. Gordan Lilly's advice!  ha  :P

I smoked more than most of you boys did and I don't mind telling you that I inhaled and enjoyed. I am born again and have never felt guilty about it.
Course, I didn't believe because I felt guilty and sought fire insurance.
I don't crave to do it again but I might if it was legal.
It is just a hassle I don't want to deal with.

I on the other hand have never tried it , been around it most of my life but never tried it. Reason Didn't want to get caught and as you put it deal with the hassle and expense . If legal don't know if I would try it don't smoke now other than a cigar every other year or so.I admit I inhaled a couple times by mistake , won't try that again  :-[
.I don't know how smoking it would make one feel guilty though. I don't feel guilty about speeding or eating a little to much. I would not feel guilty if I voted to legalize it .
Why would one feel guilty ?

The war and propaganda campaign on Canibis Sativa, also known as hemp, also known as pot, stems back as far as the days when William Randolph Hurst was in his prime. Being a newspaper mogul, he owned a great deal of stock in the timber and paper industry (well duh).

Anyway, back then, it was fairly common knowledge that this "filthy weed" was capable of producing quite a number of useful products among them being extremely resilient textiles and YES, PAPER! It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out why 'ol William Randolph so fervently used his "journalism" monster to smear this plants good reputation.

It was a rapidly renewable resource that actually DID NOT deplete the soil and could be regrown in a fraction of the time that it would take to replace an acre of trees. It was used to produce mooring lines for ships,  highly efficient lighting and lubricating oils, and even food in the form of it's tiny but plentiful seeds which are completely free of THC and are considered by many scientists to be an almost perfect balance of nutritional proteins.

Through all plant life's process of photosynthesis, the canibis plant also produces one of the highest (no pun intended) ratios of oxygen to carbon dioxide recycled, of any other plant on the planet.

16 to 20 foot plants of this species are  no miracle and the positive and beneficial things that it can produce when free of the maligning of the ignorant, power hungry, and the greedy is a MATTER OF FACT NOT FICTION, but unfortunately no longer widely known due to a biased media; the short sighted; and narrow minded.

Sure, people get "high" from smoking its buds and yes, I do see this as a shallow misuse of this incredible natural resource except in the case of medicinal use, but minus the profit value that this greed motivated prohibition creates, the plant itself is capable of rendering more good to our society than most people are truly aware.

There is plenty of information out there. One has just to open their mind and read it.

A friend had to go to the lower 48 to care for his invalid parents.  He knew he would be gone all summer, so he called a friend to house sit for him.  My friend had started his annual garden, a pretty big one.  He told the hyouse sitter to either let it all die or do with it as he pleased.  The house sitter went and removed every other row of corn and planted pot in that row.  His thoughts were that the corn would hide the pot.  He watered the garden and cared for it well all summer.

My friend came back early, just as the plants were maturing.  As he drove up the drive way he could see pot plants four feet above the corn.  My friend went charging into the house and told the house sitter to get those pot plants out of the garden, he had till the next morning.  House sitter cut all those plants, and loaded them into the back of his old Chevy truck.  The truck had a 6 foot bed, and all the plants were 7 to 8 feet tall.  He had plants dragging the ground and stacked up over the cab.  There were six to seven feet of plants above the cab.  He tied it all down with rope and drove right through the city of Fairbanks with that load uncovered.  He entered on the South nEast side and went out the West side of the city.  He drove all the way out to a friend cabin where they put the plants inside a barn and let them dry for processing.  The police never got wind of it.  A lot of people saw that truck drive through town, but no one ever reported it.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

What is your problem. You don't know me and most who do don't think I am sheeple. Some don't care for me because I am not.
Now---I don't really care about your opinion of me---the thought was about why and how you come to the conclusion?

FWIW, folks, I don't think it is the gov'ts role to tell a free man what he can eat, drink, or smoke. And it' certainly an epic scandal, the corruption and waste of money/destruction of freedoms that have come with the War on (some) Drugs. Much damage done, and very little good.
