Gas Prices
« on: October 05, 2012, 09:31:14 PM »
Looks like the oil lobby has joined the media in working against Obama.  After the first debate, gas prices have suddenly skyrocketed to new heights. I had a Republican tell me he felt that was to hurt Obama.  Ann Romney was also picked today to be the new host of The Today Show.  Can you say special interests are in a frenzy to win an election? They're taking money out of every driver in America to further their own gain.  If that is true, that collusion is being done to decide an election, that is something that every American should make a note of, even if they are a Republican.  What does that tell you if special interest groups, like big oil and the media, can manipulate an election at America's expense?
Study after study has shown how dangerous distracted driving is yet people continue to talk on their cell phones while driving. Driving in the U.S. requires your full attention. Many states and countries have made it illegal to use a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle and the federal government should follow their lead. Banning the use of cell phones while driving would have the added benefit of making the no-texting law enforceable.

Gas prices have dropped in the last few days in my area. Never knew gas prices had anything to do with the debate.

And in what part of the world has this skyrocketing happened? Here where oil IS the economy and 20% of the nation's production comes from nothing at all has happened at the pump. Crude oil prices are actually down a little this week.

Here in California we are now paying $4.75-$5.00 a gallon, for regular!  Oh, I heard the threats that were made by those who wanted to mess up the economy right before election to get "Obummer" out.  It is so obvious to many.

That's it.  That's the easiest thing to do.  Bump up oil prices 30 days before the election.  Oil embargo on the American people.  Hold Americans hostage until they are begging for a change.

It seems a bit coincidental lately that any time the price for gasoline starts to go down, there is a very convenient refinery problem.  Or so it seems here on the left coast.

Could be.  Now I see a report $5.65 per gal, cash only in CA.

Prices here in minnesota dropped about 40 cents per gallon this week to about 3.50. But we don't have that "special" california blend here. If you feel you have to blame someone for the high prices in cali, look in the mirror, you elected the fools that make the laws.

It's about time the Republicans did something to sway the election. Why leave it all to the Democrats.

We have gas from $2.99 to 3.69 / gal. for reg.  I paid $3.89 for diesel yesterday.  You can find it for 3.71 if you are willing to drive.

$3.20 to $3.50 around here , but it did drop down from $3.78 last week .  I only wish food prices would come down as well , in the grocery stores it's like the base price for anything is $5.00.

Why would oil companies not want Obummer out? If someone is wanting to severely restrict your ability to do business it is a natural reaction, same for small business owners & most businesses except for GE, GREEN energy buddies & Chinese. It's a no-brainer!! ::)

Well I don't see how you can expect oil prices to drop when you been printing money and shoving into the system, it seems perfectly logical to me that your dollar just shrunk again since Sept. and you need more of those worthless dollars to buy oil on the foreign market or here. Course then your guberment after crashing the private sector has to blame it on someone...so they point at the oil companies who are frowned upon for making the same profit as walmart does.  Go figure...only a left wing kook could print money shove it in the system and complain because they need more of them to buy stuff......LOL!!
Hairy Chest...you forgot to tell them the reason the feds printed a whole bunch more money and are dumping it in as we speak is because of the job situation.  Once again...the workers and savers and people trying to pay their own way and have a budget are the ones who hurt. These policies of spend and print money and low interest rates are the biggest burden you can put on normal middle conservative America...but our president and his cronies keep telling us they are looking out for us.
Quote
Federal Reserve
Chairman
Ben S. Bernanke
said "grave concern" about the nation's high unemployment rate led the central
bank to launch another round of stimulus, and that the aggressive open-ended
program underscores a commitment to the economic recovery.

Responding to criticism that the Fed's actions were hurting savers
by keeping interest rates low, Bernanke said there are benefits to the rates.
Low interest rates help the value of homes and business, he said.

So first they wreck the economy, then they do stupid things like print more money, then they complain because it takes more dollars to buy something, then they make up enemies...oil companies.  Then they regulate drilling and refining and lie to you about how long it takes to get it out of the ground...which is a couple months, but it takes many years to get the permits and licenses, because your getting them from guess who?...the same damn people that caused the whole mess to begin with.

Hairy, you would be hard pressed to find any true Romney supporters on this Continent.

What you can find plenty of are people who will not support the President in his efforts to change America into Socialist Europe West. There are two choices more of the same and something else. I for one am going to try something else.

California is the only place suffering from gas shortages, it's on Yahoo for cripes sake it ain't much of a secret. To summarize, the problem is that Ca. has too damn many people driving too damn many cars. They must burn a fuel that is so unique that no other part of the nation is willing to produce or use it. Therefore when there is any supply problems from the few suppliers the end users are at the mercy of this reduced supply (google supply and demand economics, it was all the rage at one time  ;) ).

Wishing for some sort of conspiracy to explain Dear Leaders demise may salve your emotions. Lie to yourself if you will. Don't come here for a big group hug though. We may appear unsophisticated here in fly over country but we are not stupid, and do not appreciate being treated in that manner.

You could always move.  8) Unemployment rate is really low around here with "help wanted" banners in front of lots of businesses. Come on down.

All is not well though. Severe housing shortage. What few that are for sale are expensive.  :o

heard on news the other night... Guv Brown ordered that they start selling winter formulation early.. apparently the prob is there ins't enought of the 'right' kind of fuel.
While I'm here.... I hate that ethenol crap. It's a boondoggle for sending money to farmers and driving up price of everything else. Hate it. and it ain't 'green'

It is a rare occassion, but I totally agree with YT on this one. We are pretty dumb for burning our food for fuel while at the same time using that food in the fuel never helps the fuel price but dramitically raises the price of FOOD PRICES while destroying small engines & yes in the name of so-called Green effect & Farm Welfare.

while it seems fashionable to blame one party, or one administration, or another, for the high gas prices it, nevertheless, will NOT change until  the encumbent administration, and possibly a new Romney administration, wakes up to the fact that our very existance as a nation, and society, relies on DIESEL AND GASOLINE for it's very existance...like it or not.

i think everyone would agree, that 'green energy' is, without doubt, a credible as well as desirable, goal for our energy sources; to believe it could be changed from fossil fuel dependant to green sources in one presidential term (four years) is NOT reasonable...is it?

how long did it take the U.S. to change from horse and buggy technology to steam/coal technology? it did NOT happen in four years; more like 75-100 years.

it's hard to find an electric powered truck to tow my 20 ft trailer...maybe in another 25-50 years. but while we're working on that technology, i'll keep my gasoline/diesel powered truck/auto/locomotive/airplane/generator.

the astounding differences in automotive technology since i purchased my first automoibile, in 1962, is marvelous...it continues to improve.

we, the United States, have enough coal, natural gas, and oil to keep us well supplied for the next 100 years (which, by the way, IS A PART OF OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT) but guess who's adminsistration has NOT allowed it to be accessed on FEDERALLY CONTROLLED lands? we're shipping most of our oil to china and india! geeeeeeeeeeeeee....by the time our own resources run low, green sources should be developed to be affordable by the AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD consumer.
