Yildiz 410 Single Shot from Academy
« on: October 06, 2012, 01:54:19 AM »
Was wanting a SxS 410, so I fondled the Yildiz model at Academy yesterday. It was nice, but I also tried out their single shot 410.
Think I have changed my mind.
Hammerless tang safety single shot 410, weighs less than 3.5 lbs and folds in half (funky-looking forearm).
Fixed modified choke, 3" chamber, real walnut stock (which means if you knick it, you won't get a white spot)
The stock is straight at the top, but is cast off slight at the bottom, like the SxS, but not enough to mess up a LH shooter.
It is so light that I think you could tie some monofilament to the end of the barrel and fish with it.
About $120.

Anybody have one, or heard of any experiences with them?

Read where they went on sale for $99.99 on Black Friday; bet they do again this year.

I know nothing about them. There is someone on here that owns one cuz I've seen him recommend them to someone asking what to buy. I seem to recall his was an O/U not a SxS tho.

I have to add at that price point I don't see how it can be very good and anyone still be making a profit. The wood alone in the buttstock on the link you gave is worth what you say the gun costs. I don't care much for that weird rake on the fore end or the little hang down lever to open it. But that's asthetics and personal choice.

I've owned several of the Stoeger SxS guns and consider them a heck of a bargain for the price. As much more money as they cost in comparison I have to believe quality is also much different. Seldom in life do you get more than you pay for. Do let us know tho if you buy it what you think of it. Heck I guess if $120 is all you pay for it you can't lose much even if you just turn it into a wall hanger. I've paid more for guns I had no other plan for than as a wall hanger.

That was probably me. I had their 12 O/U for a couple of years, then stolen. Replaced it with their 20 O/U. Had it about 4years. It was a good gun for as much as I shot it (maybe 500 per year), until I bought a Benelli 20 ga auto.

On another site a poster mentioned getting one a couple of years or more ago..
he claimed it was a very great value for the dollar after getting it and actually  shooting it awhile... :)

By the looks of this folding gun it is very similar to several brands that use to be common 30-40 years ago made in Spain and Italy.  They were good guns for there purpose and at the price this one is available at I dont think you would be dissapointed with it as used guns of this type fetch higher prices than this is new.

With the price of 410 shells, I decided I should get something that I could miss with for half the cost.

I've decided to wait until Christmas. Too many other guns to shoot until then.
I can see me getting in to reloading 410's about February, so I'm sure I will be pm'ing on you.

I watched the video from the gallery tab on the Yildiz website and was impressed.
The wood to metal fit, wood quality, and engraving look very nice for guns priced in this low end range.  Being there are no Academy stores here in the north I will have to wait and visit one of them on  one of my yearly trips down south.
I have a safe full of O/U & SxS shotguns now that see little use anymore and I own a couple 410 singles but just might have to pickup one of the folding 410's as I have nothing that lightweight and just might give me a project to convert one to a 32 H & R mag rifle, that would be nice.  ;D      Jedman
