Need an opinion on a new gun
« on: October 06, 2012, 09:56:48 AM »
Well I'm looking at getting a Varmintized 22 LR rifle. Been searching the net and believe I have found what I want. Its a Savage Mark II model BRJ. It is a 21 inch barrel bolt action magazine fed. weight is 7.0 lbs. w/o scope. It is a laminated stock with Monte Carlo cheek rest. The barrel is twist fluted. I have a great Marlin .22 cal. Mag.783 tube feed, which I like a lot because of capacity for ammo. I have purchase a couple of 10 rd. magazines for it which should add approx. a pound to the weight. Also purchased a Redfield 3x9 varmint scope, which will ad approx a pound and a half. giving me with scope rings approx. 9 lbs. weight, so it will be steady. Using this for Robinson Ground Squirrels up in Utah around Cedar City on a ranch. He asked a friend to please come up and kill them all, causing damage to live stock.

We have a Sav. heavy barrel, lam. thumbhole stock, Accutrigger 22LR topped with an old Lyman All American 10x that has been brilliantly accurate right out of the box. If I were buying a new CF bolt gun I would seriously consider a Savage as they have been more than competitive in The Cast Bullet Assoc. matches.
Though this isnt the right forum for these rifles, most of us do have other favorites than H&R 'Handirifles'.
