Seemed like lots of folks are listing the SL models when they start talking about their favorites.

1). Why, other than they are light?
2). Are the new ones as good as old one?  Everyone is complaining about the new QC.

Looking to see if I might need to start collect super lights, too!

It's probably because the Handi Rifle is all about being light weight but still packing a punch.
The lighter the better for packing around all day in the woods.

Dunno, my first Super Light is on it's way to me as we speak.    Maybe I'll agree or maybe not.  I love my .45 Colt, .45-70 and .223 rifle barrels a lot.  Gonna see how the 30-30 works in the line-up.

They make a .30-30 super light?

What all comes in the SL?  The website only shows .223 & .243.  Are there other discontinued models out there I need to look for?

They Made a 30-30 superlite.  From the original Topper sets.    Gotta work on an underlug mod, but should be a sweet little barrel.    Just hoping it locks onto one of my 5 frames.  hehe

Jimbo, my .223 is all about anything but light weight.  Blond wood with a bull barrel and scope. But it's a joy to shoot, hold and look at.

I could pick from any of a number of guns if I wanted a heavier gun.  The chamberings which I feel suit the Handi best (strictly my personal tastes) are not bruisers anyway.  No point in carrying a bunch of extra weight if I don't need it.  The .357 is the one that puzzles me.  I mentioned this in another thread, but it just seems "right" in a short, light carbine.  Simplicity of design, function and operation complement the minimalist nature of the lightweights as well.
 
Nothing against the heavier Handi's, but I wish there were more chamberings in the slimmer barrels.  Their weight distribution and sleekness of the entire gun is not possible on all actions.

The 'Old Timers' used to consider a 9-10# sporting rifle light..........
but I admit Im not the man I used to be. My old Stevens Mdl 44 action rifles and Win. Low Wall 25-20 ran 7#, and many of the H&Rs do about that. They were considered ideal woods loafing rifles.
I do remember reading some sporting magazine articles from 100 yrs ago where some 'elderly' chaps extolled the virtues of super lightweight; ie, 5ish#, but a definite minority and harder to shoot well offhand ("standing on yer hind legs and shootin' like a man", IIRC, attributed to H. Pope)
