Man I'm bummed---
« on: October 09, 2012, 06:03:26 AM »
:(  I lost a doe I shot Sunday night. I haven't lost a deer in several years, in fact it is only my second one. I had four deer come in from two directions on the right side of my stand, which made it tough to get my boe drawn back to full draw. My safety strap was too low and my right elbow scraped it right as I hit full draw and spooked the larger doe I was getting ready to shoot at. She looked up and bolted but another doe stood her ground so I moved my bow toward her and took the shot. Right away I knew I screwed up as she was actually closer and more level with me and I shot too high going about an inch or too below her spine but above her lungs. I found a faint blood trail for 30 yards or so then lost it so I left and went back Monday morning. I picked up the trail and tracked her for at least a couple hundred yards before the blood just disappeared. Never found my arrow either.   >:(
I guess it happens but it's been almost twenty years for me. I always prided myself on taking good clean shots and recovering what I have shot.
Anyway just a short rant..

That's too bad.  On the bright side, a lot of deer hit in that area recover rather well with only scars and a story to tell.

Yea, I figure that she will survive unless it gets infected or a coyote brings her down. Either way she won't go to waste as the scavengers have to eat too.

It happens. It still stinks though. Not a good feeling losing one.

I have yet to get one in range this season. Going out again this weekend.

Good luck on your next hunt and recovery.

I found out a long time ago you can't get a deer unless you shoot at it. Sometimes you miss the sweet spot. If you loose a deer and feel real bad about it your an ethical hunter. If you loose one and don't feel bad about it then you are not.
