pencils may be banned at my daughters school.when i wnet to get her school supplies she had to have mechanical pencils. which are basically worthless as the lead breaks every time you try to write with them. i assume regular pencils were being used as shanks!

I have a piece of lead under the skin inside my right elbow. been there for roughly 62 years.
they CAN be dangerous and this wound was self-inflicted.

I think most have had a run in with the dangerous pencil.
My only Tattoo is a lead mark in the palm of my hand.Also self inflicted

I still have a dark place on my rt leg from being stabbed with a pencil in grade school, definitely NOT self inflicted. POWDERMAN.

I have a small piece of pencil lead in the top of my left thigh thanks to one of my brother`s stabbing me with a pencil some 58 years ago!
Of course that was mild in contrast to a shovel across your back or a hoe handle on the space between your shoulder and neck!!

Ben was right. pencils are too dangerous for children. also they cause mis-spelled words.

As has been shown, pencil lead is dangerous to the public....they should go to all copper pencils.

Guess I was one of the lucky ones.
I don't have any pencil lead in my body although I have been told I do have some lead in my A##.
I know I have a lead foot and there are 19 pieces of lead in that same foot (bullet fragments left over from my younger days).
I also know that I ate lead paint as a kid but don't think it ever hurt me!!!

need to take troublemakers out of class
like they did 40 years ago.
nowdays, they won't do it because it
will "hurt their feelings" or make someone
feel "uncomfortable".
the talented and gifted children need to
have a disruption-free classroom to learn
without the carnival atmosphere.
the disruptive kids and the punks need to
be put somewhere and checked out to see
why they're not acting right. see if something
is wrong at home, have they been abused, etc.
or are they just no good punks.

Longtom, I've heard lead paint exposure causes one to want a lot of firearms and stay in the brush all the time....

In my day, disrupting class got you expelled. my Dad always told me that if I embarrassed them with expulsion, he'd stomp my butt every time he saw me.

Lead pencils don't just break. I got my first one in the 3rd grade and haven't used a wooden pencil since. I love those things, sharpening not required. Also, they are more dangerous than a wooden pencil because they have a sharp metal tip.

Give them all crayons, worst you can do with them is choke swallowing one. Or better yet, let them find out themselves and learn not to stick themselves again.

Had a teacher that always said don't stick anyone with the pencil because you will get lead poisoning. Guess that teacher didn't know the difference between graphite (carbon) and Pb lead. I wonder if that was an idle warning so we didn't stick each other or if she really believed that herself.
