What Are You Carrying This Year?
« on: October 09, 2012, 11:22:42 AM »
I just finished getting my guns and ammo together for my firearms moose and deer hunts, and lo and behold my primary gun is my Remington 760 carbine in 30-06, and my back-up/sometimes gun is my BAR in .308.  Both are topped with red dots, which are almost as quick as open sights in the terrain I hunt, and are much friendlier to my old eyes.

What are you taking with you this fall?
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

I am going to hunt deer for the first time with the AR. I tradded my Colt A2 fixed cary handle for a Bushmaster with a removable cary handle.

I ordered a Nikon 223 scope, fixed 3X power and the matching mount from Cabelas.

This weekend I hope to get the scope mounted and get out to the range. I will use this gun on stand only and for doe shooting.

I have ammo to get started with but will order some 60 grain Federal Nosler Partitions for hunting.

I will use my 7600 35 carbine or 35 Whelen rifle for drives or when hunting where bears might be encounted.

In the spring I am going on a bait bear hunt in New Brunswick. I am thinking of my 673 in 350 rem mag or Marlin guide gun in 45/70. I have time to decide.

Probably a Remington 7600 synthetic 243 with 4x m-8 Leupold and Barnes ammo with 80 grain Barnes TTSX ammo for the first one and then going to try a CZ 527 223 with 60 grain Federal Partitions and a leupold 2.5 x with heavy duplex.

For the woods, Remington 7600P, 165gr. Cast load, Tru Dot red dot sight.  Max distance = 50 yards.  On one particular stand, I might use Ruger GP100 in .357 Mag with Burriss fastfire.  Average distance 50-75 FEET!

In the fields, FN mauser 30-06 with 150 gr. Nosler BTs with 3-9X Redfield Revolution scope.  Max distance = 250 yards.
