Someone help me date a pre-war M&P 38, please...
« on: October 10, 2012, 08:23:36 AM »
No photos yet, sorry.  My photo hosting site is "unavailable" for now.

Just made an interesting discovery at a local shop and the price seemed right so got a new toy.  This is a pre-war .38, nickel, 5" gun that has only one tiny spot of freckling on the backstrap, zero holster wear, original and clearly numbered wood diamond grips and mechanically near new - all numbers match too.  Does not appear to have been shot but maybe a cylinder full.  Serial number is 337xxx

Looking for a date, but am without my references for a bit.

Thanks - redleg

Photos - but not that good.

Condition, in my opinion is quite high.  Only wear is a slight cylinder turn line.  No muzzle wear at all.

Late 40s to early 50s, my guess? I can't remember when they discontinued the 5 screw guns. What's the serial number?
