Hunters Extreme Coppermelt?
« on: February 10, 2004, 03:27:45 AM »
Has anyone used this product? I'm purchasing a new gun soon and want to start it out on the right foot. All I've ever used before is Hoppes #9.

Thanks,
Tom

Hoppes is a great powder fouling solvent but doesn't remove the jacket metal fouling left by the bullet.  This is typically a copper-nickle alloy.  I use Sweet's 7.62 to clean rifles.  It removes powder fouling and jacket metal fouling.  Sweets attacks the copper in the jacket fouling with ammonia.  The copper disolves and turns blue.  It can then be swabbed from the bore.  This material will also disolve brass bore brushes but I don't use these every time I clean..  In fact I don't always use the Sweets.  Sometimes a simple cleaning with the Hoppes is all I need, especially if the rifle hasn't been used all that much.  Hoppes is worth buying just for the smell!!  I too would be interested if anyone has used the CopperMelt.  Its advertising makes some very broad reaching claims....
