trap swivels
« on: October 12, 2012, 04:16:44 PM »
on casca1's topic , i mentioned i was
adding some swivels to my traps.
should i tack weld the open ends of
the swivels after closing the gap
when installing, or will the thickness
of the swivel links be adequate to
hold everything shut?   thanks! !

If you use  HD crunch proof swivels  ( which Olson has) you dont need to weld swivels shut UNLESS you are going after wolves, then  weld.

ok.
i kinda thought the material was stout
enough after closing to be ok, but i'd
never used 'em so i thought it best to
ask the pros. no wolves here to worry
about (thank god) just possums coons
skunks and 'yotes

 sincere thanks!!

if i'd have put one or two on before
asking, i'd have answered my own question.
these things are hell for stout.
i have some new 160's i've not used yet,
and i was putting one on and i guess i
thought i was gonna just squeeze 'em
with pliers.  :P
had to take 'em back inside and squeeze 'em
together with the vise. no need for a tack weld
for dang sure. if something were to open one
of these swivels up, i say go! run free with my
blessing!!

I've never tack welded the j hooks closed on my swivels.Lots of fox and coyotes have danced at my sets with traps on and never had a j hook open.I do like the MB swivels.Bill
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

The universal swivel, does not need the j hooks welded either. The j hooks are just as heavy as those in the crunch proof swivels.

One  doesnt have to  buy a tag to trap wolves....... been doing it for years trapping yotes.... My traps are mod so no problem holding them.  Many years ago , biologist said just note  if wolf had collar and  color ect.   and let him know.   Alot of people are looking for trapping instructions  all of a sudden since they have wolf tag.   They dont know anything how to.....but  wont join trapping association..... but they want  instruction.... go figure!!!

                                                                 just a note
last time I joined sumthin  it took me over 7 years to get out
ifin they would have a guy like me, their standards are to low for me to join up
don't you need to trap a critter before you become a trapper?

Tom
I put in but didn't get a tag. I know it's a bunch to pay if I'd got a kill tag. We can thank the politcians for the price but I kinda figured it might be a once in a life time chance. Probably stop it again next year just because of all the crap. I caught a badger today in a 160 RBG so I have to turn him in to the DNR. Lots of guy here in WI never catch one badger, but other states kill hundreds. Go figure.

                           BADGERS  BADGERS
WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN BADGERS
                        sorry couldn't help myself
here in the PEOPLE'S REPUBLIK OF ILLINOIS  I believe we can still trap a badger probably only 1 or 2 left around
what we hold sacred is the BOBCAT.  We gottem down south and had em here 60 miles south of chicago, capital of the republik ( not really but they run the joint).
so what does the state do with your BADGER ?  I think I would stick him in a sack and knock on the door and run.

From what I know and RdFx could maybe explain it better if I'm wrong. Furs turned into the DNR like the badger eventually go to one central freezer. Then they have a day when  new wardens and guys from the state trapper assoc. get together skin critters and put up the hides. Then they decide what to send to tan for use in schools and classes and such. The rest get sold and the money goes in the trapper Ed class.  RdFx did I get that pretty close to right?
