Priced a .357 Handi at WM the other day at $282 and change.

It was by order only - none on the shelf.

The clerk even knew to call first to see if what you wanted was available before taking your money.

I would check with FFL's in your area on transfer fees.  Some in my area charge $50 on new guns ($25 used) on the idea you could have bought the new gun from them.  One FFL won't take any transfers from Bud's and a few charge more than $50 if it's from Bud's.  Not sure about CTD.

One other note on a transfer of a new gun, if you need any kind of warranty repair don't expect the FFL to help you.  They only transfered it, they didn't sell it.

I saw a NIB NEF .30-30 synthetic with open sights at a gun show yesterday.  It was stickered 245.  The guy acted like he was willing to haggle, but I passed.  I can't use open sights, and it was undoubtedly an ejector which I don't like.  The thought went through my mind to buy it and see if anyone here wanted it.  Then I thought shipping and FFL fees would cancel any advantage so I walked away.  There was also a new .25-06 with a checkered cin lam stock for 275.00.  That was tempting since I don't have one, but I've blown my budget for a bit :'(

would have accepted a scope mount,
which is what i would have done.
i looked at a wood stk. fri. for 299.00 :(

Wal-Mart picked up a H&R wood stock .444 marlin for $288 with tax out the door.  Slapped a Tasco 3x9x50 on it, and it's ready to go.  I know not the best scope however ask half the guys around here, and they've had one of these on their .45-70's, .35 whelens, etc for multiple seasons with no problems.

Plus I stopped buying high end scopes after last year when a tripwire hung my boot tripping me over a log with my .30-06 I broke 2 ribs on the fall, and bent my tasco world class 3x9x40.  Luckily the rifle a Mossberg ATR was unhurt in fact the scope was still on the eyepiece was just a little...off. lol

Still managed to get in the blind and hunt the entire day.  It just took me around 2 minutes to get my wind back, and another 5 or so to peel myself up off the ground. lol. Couldn't sleep on my right side comfortable for a couple of months, and looked like I took a baseball bat to the rib cage.

So replaced it with a sportsman's guide special Barksa 3x9x40 and have had no problems.

Goes to show you even if you've been trained on how to fall (sounds crazy but yeah), and are conscious of protecting your weapon in such a scenario.  Eventually you'll hit just the right tripwire, on the right morning, with the right log present, and break your scope and your ribs. lol

I picked up a bull barrel 22-250 for $150 at Dicks here in Rhode Island. I'm kicking myself for not also picking up a 223 they still had

GaryRI - I'd run not walk, back to the Dick's store, and pick up that .223.  I've been looking for one of those elusive Dick's Specials (came with a 4-12Scope, rings, and hammer extension right?) for a while now, and in .223 even!

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

My .45-70 bought used came with a Tasco 3-9x50.   Six years later, it's still there and working fine and I'm shooting hot .405 Rem. loads.

OldSchool - yes on the scope and trigger extension. I realized I am an idiot and called the next day & the 223 was gone.
