reducing the weight on a Remington 7600 ?
« on: October 14, 2012, 04:01:28 AM »
I have several Remington 7600 pump rifles and love them.
I have synthetic stocks on a couple of them and it really reduces the weight from the wood stocks but I am curious as to whether anyone has done any work to reduce the weight even more ?
Fluting or turning down the barrel or if the reciever can be lightened safely to further reduce weight ?
Thanks
Craig

The receiver could be lightened as it provides little strength to the gon. The barrel extension absorbs the firing pressures the receiver just holds parts in alignment.. The barrel could be changed or turned to a lighter profile. The pump guide rod might be replaced with aluminum and perhaps there are other things but why.. The reductions would be small..and the guns felt recoil will be exacerbated..

Hi, Reason being just to lighten the weight much as the lighter weight bolt guns as compared to "regular weight"bolt rifles
I just love the Remington Pumps and am just curious as to the possibilities .
Thanks for the info.

Well I suppose thats as good a reason as any.. The stock horn, mounting point, might be replaced with an alloy unit.. all these weight reduction components would custom fabricated as no one makes any such thing that I'm aware of.. Even an alloy receiver could be fabricated..with proper ATF paper work.. with the right barrel and an agressive weight reduction policy 20% perhaps even more could be removed. It would almost certainly be horribly expensive but the rifle would surely be unique!!
