remington has a 7.62x39 core-lokt offering

my buddy killed his moose with Remington 125's     at 85 yds with an SKS.   complete pass through the chest and brisket.

I'm think in' that in spite of the recommendations of ammo that has been proven in the field the owner has lost confidence in the cartridge.
I am also sure that there are a number of people here who would be glad to buy that barrel/gun; why not post it on the classifieds and sell it, then buy something else?

If that came up, but if I hadn't already built a Mauser bolt action in that caliber, I'd be all over that.  8)

As a side note I shot that el-cheapo imported chinese "hunting" SKS ammo when I was a kid.  It does the job however...

Stay away from Wolf ammo for hunting.  It's ok for plinking, and range practice.  Good and cheap, goes bang.  If your one of those SHTF guys it's sealed as well so will last longer than most commercial ammo.

However I've tested groups between it an other "cheap" ammo and it's bad stuff.  For example my Mosin Nagant M-44 at 50 yards would shoot 6" groups with Wolf ammo.  I was like there is no way this caliber rifle, even with the bayonet lug can be shooting 6" groups off the bench.
So I picked up a box of Winchester 7.62x54R and the groups dropped to 1/2" at 50 yards.

Also tested it in a SKS old surplus Chinese ammo was shooting 3-4" groups at 100.  Wolf was shooting variably out to 8" groups at 100 yards.  Then it had some flyers that if counted would open the group up to 10 - 12".  Tried a box of new MFG Winchester white box, and waala!  Groups magically dropped to 2" at 100 from the bench.

The difference in my 9mm, and .40cal were also notable.  Also my SKS was a Chinese Norinco pre-ban bought NIB.  Some of the other SKS's I've seen, and fired won't do 2" at 50 yards no matter what.

See, now THERE was the problem all along, it was a ROSSI! ;D   (Sorry couldnt help myself!)

It warms my heart to hear all of the love for the little .30 russian round.  Most times people jump on the wagon to beat up on it!

Like they said, he had plenty of gun, and with U. S. factory rounds identical to 30-30.

Reloading, on the other hand, can make the little russian shine!

It is a shame that one bad incident with questionable ammo would put a shadow on ANY gun.

I have had two instances that ended up bad with a 30'06, at 50 yds.  Well within range of a 30'06!  Both instances was a shoulder shot to anchor the deer and prevent it from going into a steep banked creek boardering my property which makes it a PITA to drag a deer out of.  Both times with a time proven ammo (Winchester Silvertip 150gr) and same gun.  I had made the same shot before with Remington Core-lokt 150gr. with no trouble.  I will not use Silvertips for shoulder shots ever again!

"More power" does not equal "dead deer".
