980 Ultra hunter weight
« on: October 14, 2012, 02:55:28 PM »
I have wanted an Ultra hunter for a while I just picked up one in nice shape
but as we all know geeez this think is heavy
I was thinking about putting a synthetic stock on it to lighten it up. One of the Handi Grips may be great but I am concerned that the balance of the gun maybe so far out it may not work well

Any experiance with this??
Thanks HAnk

I plan on shooting some 7-800 grain full bore slugs in mine so the added weight will be nice.

B Boy,

if it is still there you can remove the steel weight from the stock bolt channel to reduce the gun weight.  My preferred method to making a Handi lighter involves the barrel and a hacksaw. :o ;) ;D

shot one  tonight 7 rounds threw it to zero@ 25/50/100 yards did it in 3 but it was fun to shoot 2 in the bulls eye...  an rest 2-3  above center, an i think it was me using a pair of sticks from sitting position shooting sloppy , all the shots where in the kill zone tho, i never used shooting sticks to lighten a gun, but it worked fine i compare it to a 512 marlin 12 ga  in weight only mine was a 20ga... and a old vintage busnell sharp shooter fixed 4x32 scope shot 3" groups with sst 250gr Hornady.... you have to modify fit an trim, the synthetic handi forearm...ultra is too thick of a barrel... i used wood..too fit an trim... they sent me 2 sets of stocks and the 20ga ultra 3 in mag barrel for 150$ not bad...for a new gun never shot... i can live with that........just need to put better optics an shoot some different loads...enjoy!
