Got my first deer down in 2012 Saturday. One shot one down.
« on: October 15, 2012, 05:47:17 AM »
Got my season started out right with a doe saturday morning before the rain set in. Field dressed out at 105 lbs so should be real good eating. She was slightly quarted to, and the arrow pierced the right lung and heart at about 10 yards from one of my honey hole stands leading to the last standing corn in the area.

Later that afternoon I got in a couple of hours spot and stalk with my youngest son when he got off work and the rain decided to stop. Never got close enough to try a shot, but we did see four does. Only problem was they saw us first. Overall a pretty good day.

I will be out with my brother this upcoming saturday doing a spot and stalk in the Hoosier Nat'l Forest down in Bloomington. Looking forward to it.

So how is everyone elses season going so far?

Congrats, Buckhorn; that should be good eating.  My grandson (first year bowhunting..right place..right time  ;) ;D ) got a 7 pointer first day out.
I never did the "bow thing"  ...but congrats to you both..

Congratulations to your grandson.  :)  That first bow kill is one he will never forget. Mine was very similar. Right place, right time my second time out, and I got a small 4 pointer. I can remeber it likes it was yesterday. I've arrowed some nice bucks since then, but that little four pointer will always be one of my best.

Got my 4th and 5th deer with the bow on the 5th and 12th of October.  On Friday the 5th, I shot a doe at 6 yards and on the 12th, I shot my biggest buck at 13 yards.

Both went about 20 to 25 yards and went right down.  And that was my first archery buck also.

Slowdown OmegaHunter and leave some for the rest of us! Great looking buck and your first one to boot. That is awsome. Are you going to have a shoulder mount done? Looks like a wall hanger to me.

I got one of the new combo tags this year so I will be taking some more for the freezer, just have not had that much time to get out with work and the Honey Do list. I plan on taking some v-time the first week of November and hitting it hard for my antlers this year.

Yep, he is at the taxidermist's already.  They said only had 4 or 5 before mine, so it really shouldn't be too long till I get him back.

I am pretty well done except for filming my wife's gun hunts.  She started hunting last year and got a really nice 8 point that we didn't get on video.

Sad to say, but I am starting to like getting the meat in the freezer before it starts freezing outside.  :-\

And that was 4th and 5th deer EVER for me with the bow, not 4th and 5th for this year.
