hi howie,

I think 300+lbs and a few inches of tusk is a trophy.  Taxidermist uses plastic tusks in the mount anyway (unless they stabilize them so they don't crack).  My opinion.

Doug

Here's my biggest trophy.

Anything +300 is a real trophy.  Boars tend to grow tusks quick after sexual maturity.

Around our neck of the woods a real buster is anything over the 300+ pound mark but trophies are measured by their tusk length.  Those with tusks over 4-5 inches is considered trophy size.  My heaviest went 382 lbs. but my biggest trophy has tusks measuring 6 3/4 inches.  Lawdog

howie1968,

Lots of food around here.  Acorns, grasses, etc., everything to make a growing hog fat and happy.  The largest I have ever seen was one taken by our local Veterinarian.  A real monster sow that when in the back of his 6 ft. bed pick-up(Ford 4x4 short bed), the head was hanging over the end of the tail gate.  She dressed out just short of 570 pounds.  She was one of those feral hogs that come from cross breeding Russians with domestic hogs that went wild.  Got lots of both types here in California.  My granddaughter turns 12 soon and for a birthday present we are going hog hunting.  Going to bloody that new 7mm-08 I gave her for Christmas.  Lawdog

I saw a picture of one 2or3 yrs. back in the Denison Herald (Denison Texas) a local paper. The thing was shot with a bow,and was hanging out of a pickup. It is ( acording to the paper) a Texas record weighing in at 1079 pds. fielddressed.  I did at one time have the picture and article, but I can't find it or I would post it.  Has anyone else seen this hog?

For SCI record book entry the two bottom tusks are used for the score.  Lengths and maximum circumferences of the two have to add up to 15 to make the record book.

For Records of Exotics it takes 11 to be bronze, 16 for silver, and 21 inches for gold level.  They use the lengths and bases.

I don't know what Trophy Game Records of the World uses right off, but they enter any animal as a trophy, then they classify them, based on the competition later.  They put World record, world class, A, B, and C next to the entry in the book.
