Feeding problem with winchester 94ae trapper in 30-30 win
« on: October 16, 2012, 05:12:27 PM »
Having problems getting this rifle to feed the rounds into the chamber, about every 2nd or 3rd round wants to hang up and cause me to have to work the lever back and forth a time or two so it will come on out of the cartridge guides and enter the chamber stright.. sometimes it will even throw the shell completely out of the rifle, its like the shell lifter is not coming up all the way each time, even when I work the lever very deliberate and firm it will still do this, I feel this is some sort of timing issue but have no clue how to correct it. This rifle is very accurate and I would love to carry it to the deer woods but I dont cotton to carrying a rifle I have no confidence in, I have this thing about wanting my firearms to work everytime..

Thanks

Check the various screws on your 94. Sometimes they can work loose. When I first bought my 94 big bore in 375 win just about every screw especially the cartridge guides were loose. Also check the extractor for junk and crud under the hook. Sometimes the extractor gets junk underneath it and then you can get problems. As far as your hangups please describe them in more detail. I'm not the expert on lever actions but have a good 8 or so and never had a problem such as you describe. Hopefully someone with more knowledge tham me will come along and help you out. Frank

Check the cartridge guide retaining screws, sounds like one or both may be loose..
