I'm using my 18 inch Handis in .38-55 and .356 for deer this coming season. I figured I'd better drag them out and do any fine tuning if necessary. I'm shooting the Hornady 200 gr. PSP in the .356 at 2370 fps. The .38-55 is shooting a .213 gr. custom bonded bullet at 2275 fps. I ran both loads through the ballistics calculator for a 200 yard zero. I found them to be, except for energy, a mirror image of each other. Both 1.8 inches high at 50, 3.3 inches high at 100 and dead on at 200. They were 13.4 and 13.9 inches low, respectively, at 300. Both came up with a max point blank range of 224 yards when zeroed at 191.
There for a moment, I thought I ran the same data twice.
This means I can grab either rifle knowing her performance will be the same as her sister. Kinda neat and Handi. Now all I have to do is get a few minutes when it's not raining and blowing to double check them at 50, 100 and 200.
