Taurus Customer Service
« on: October 19, 2012, 01:00:33 AM »
Hi All,

I have read a lot of negative stuff on several forums regarding bad experiences returning a firearms to Taurus/Braztech for repair.  So when my "pawn shop" PT111 died a few months ago I just set it off to the side.  Finally had it shipped in about a month ago and it was returned in about 2 weeks in a new Factory Box.  Took it to the range a couple of days again and it worked flawlessly.  I looked at the repair ticket and they fixed the problem I knew about and replaced three other parts that weren't broken but I guess didn't meet their specs.  Very happy with my first and only experience with them.

I know I had heard all the "horror" stories but both times I have personally known about, they were great. My son had a problem and had his sent to Taurus by Gander Mountain. He shipped it on a Saturday morning and the following Fri. afternoon got a call to pick it up at the store. Mine was having a problem with the magazine release. I sent it in and had it back 9 days later. Both times the repair was free, and the problem was fixed. This was not quite a year ago.

BTW I am curious........ what was wrong with your pistol that required repair.  Just for my future so I know what to keep an eye on.  Thanks.

There is a small plastic retainer on the backend of the slide (I have seen this part referred to as a "light bulb" because of its profile) that came off and then then a metal retain came out and took the tension off the f-pin spring.  It is possible that the metal retainer let loose first and popped the plastic piece off the slide.  Once this happens the gun will not fire.   They also replaced the magazine release and a couple of other small parts but I don't remember what they where.  I bought this gun real cheap a few years ago at a pawn shop and it had seen rough service by its former owner(s).  I use if for CCW in cold weather and when I am hunting so it has been treated much better by me.
