weak hand shooting
« on: October 19, 2012, 10:54:48 AM »
By federal law, now a few years old, retired cops can have a c/c permit good nationwide and in any U.S. territory.  However, they must qualify every year.  Today, I went for my renewal at the state police range.  They've changed the course a bit since I last was there to include 5 yard shooting with your left (or weak) hand, keeping your strong hand away as if it were injured.  After all these years, I learned today that if the handgun is held at a 45 degree angle, sort of like the bad guys shoot in the gangster movies, the recoil is much easier to manage and the follow up shots are therefore quicker.  Who knew?  Shot a 99.2 score.

Forgot to say that my gun is a Ruger SR9c.  The 50 round course is from 5, 15, and 25 yards.  Lots of fun to see the old fellows again, still healthy and still shooting.
