SBE1 with shaw barrel.
« on: October 20, 2012, 04:40:34 AM »
I have a early SBE1 made by H&K that has a 24 inch Shaw rifled barrel with a leupold variX II 3x9x50 scope mounted on it.
I have owned this setup for many years and have never shot  it and I am thinking this could be the year.
If any one has any experience  with a set up like this I would like your input.
What slugs have worked best for you and what kind of accuracy and range can i expect.  Thank You.

You were not clear on what it was. From your handle I would guess a .410. If so I built one with a Douglas barrel on a Moslin action for a deer gun. I was planning on useing brass cases so I chambered it in 2 1/2 in. which would be the same as a .405 Win. Problem is the State of Ohio won`t let me use all brass cases. I rechambered it in 3 in. Mine has a .411 bore and does not like the .410 jacketed pistole bullets. I like the Lead Head hard cast gas checked bullets and they shoot very well, at least in warm weather. I just use a Lee dipped # 205 and use AA 8700 powder and put a normal star crimp on the case. This powder is way to slow and leaves alot of unburnt powder in the barrel, but pushes a 240 gr. bullet at near 1,300 fps. which is a real nice deer load and the grandkids have no trouble with recoil.

I am sorry if i did clearly identify what the gun is. It is a (Benelli) Super Black Eagle 12ga semi auto.
