The Federal drug warriors - ever vigilant to preserve their rice bowls/fiefdoms/pensions - intend to prosecute for marijuana in spite of state laws/referendums decriminalizing

http://news.yahoo.com/u-stance-marijuana-unchanged-legalization-votes-official-021723549.html
Quote
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A top Justice Department official has told "60 Minutes" the federal government is ready to combat any "dangers" of state-sanctioned recreational pot, amid criticism of the Obama administration for its relative silence on legalization drives in three states.
Dangers? Is the danger here that the citizens are making up their own mind, contrary to the interests of the drug warriors?
Quote
Voters in Colorado, Washington state and Oregon are set to vote on November 6 on whether to legalize and tax marijuana sales, raising the possibility of a showdown with the federal government, which views pot as an illegal narcotic. Deputy Attorney General James Cole, in comments to "60 Minutes" posted on Saturday to the website of CBS affiliate KCNC-TV in Denver, said his office's stance on pot would be "the same as it's always been" if voters approved legalization.
"We're going to take a look at whether or not there are dangers to the community from the sale of marijuana and we're going to go after those dangers," Cole told "60 Minutes" in an outtake from a report on Colorado's medical marijuana industry due to air on Sunday, according to the CBS affiliate.
'Dangers'? What dangers are the feds going to go after?
Quote
Cole's statement is an indication the federal government, which has raided medical pot dispensaries in several of the 17 states that allow cannabis as medicine, could also take aim at state-sanctioned recreational marijuana.
Well... gotta keep that pension/fiefdom gravy train a-rollin', and screw what the voters have to say about it... .
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

They are not coming after me !  No need to, since I have nothing they want.
If folks would like to see the federal agents deprived of their "ricebowls/fiefdoms/pensions"...there is one very simple way to do it!  If we all quit buying and eating breakfast cereals, and farmers quit growing the raw product...Kellogg's & Post would soon lose a lot of employees.
So, do what the left does so often..BOYCOTT!....  Boycott the garbage these federal officers are required to go after..  After all, if the supply of the junk dries up, their jobs will dry up!
It's in your power...boycott dope...put the federal law enforcement officers on permanent layoff  !!!!
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

You don't really believe that do you? If everyone quit using and the Mexicans quit sending it into the States the government would just manufacture a reason for these officers to remain active. Remember-government never shrinks it only expands. I often wonder if the drug problem is really as bad as the media would lead me to believe it is or is it just propaganda to condition me into agreeing that all of these paramilitary federal agencies are absolutely necessary to preserve my safety?

The cartels might go away but the federal paramilitary drug squad would just be repurposed.

I tried to warn people in this State that state legalization has nothing to do with the feds, they just laughed at me and asked if I was a lawyer, they ain't laughing now as the feds have already cracked down on people with State pot cards, they even went to the heads of the state to try and get all the names of people who had them. So in my mind there are idiots on all sides, the State had idiots that legalized it even though it was against fed law and didn't bother to figure that out, the people who got "pot cards" are real idiots...nothing like putting your name out there that you smoke dope and stick it in a data base. Of course the feds were idiots to begin with, like has already been stated, all the tax funded fed cops will always be there even if they have to manufacture dope themselves, someone needs to be busted no matter what.
I guess I'll stick to a shot of something every now and then or a beer, a lot less hassle, and it was fun watching everyone fall all over themselves to get their pot cards, and the grow cards.  Some raids went on here already and there are court cases pending. The truth is, very few people actually need it for medicine compared to the heads who have used it all their lives and wanted to get themselves legal. I have no problem with it being legal anyway, but everyone should have known the people in the state legislature are not smart enough to pass a medical pot law without the feds being part of it, or have a way to control it, or a way to control the feds.  Heck, our State is trying to re-write it and get some clarification on it still.
Oh, almost forgot...ATF says it's against the law for a person with a pot card to have guns...WHOOPS....how many idiots didn't think about that?  Yes, we are talking some years behind bars if they want to.
The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent out a memo last week clarifying their stance that a sportsman with a shotgun and a medical marijuana card is no different than a cocaine dealer with a silenced TEC-9.

Actually I was refering to the money on the other side of this equation ( I'm pretty sure that was not lost on you ). Dealers, druglords, bankers and politicians. The money flowing pretty much in that order too. This supply and demand situation works on both sides. One side demands a product at any cost monitarily, the other side demanding money at any cost socially. A need is being met on both sides, few people with any power are interested in illegal drug traffic drying up.

When a druglord misses a payment to a politician or banker you will know. The crackdown begins within hours and the battle will be joined. Do not worry though there is plenty of cash to go around my friend.

Minor weed crimes keep people in jail. Which feeds the Aramark corporate catering business. Also, you need a lot of prisoners to keep UNICOR / FPI businesses going.

How do you compete with foreign cheap labor? UNICOR

Obamacare proves the Fed can bully the state and threaten to withhold federal funds for non compliance with current policy.

Secession.

I just LOVE  self-righteous hypocritical gas bags that are all for states rights..... until the state decides to do something they don't agree with---- then it should be a FEDERAL issue. Preserving rights is great..... unless it is someone ELSE"S rights. Freedom of religion is just great---- as long as it is THEIR religion. They are all bluster about what they will do when someone comes after their guns, "from my cold dead hands", it should also apply just as much to " when they invade your bedroom", just as much to "when trying to force women to have an ultra sound", to trying to force acceptance of "personhood" of the unborn, when even MISSISSIPPI defeated it 2 to one.

Yep; rather like the lefties who:

1) Espouse and fight for "women's rights" than want us all to pay for killing a large percentage of women before they are even born!

2) Believes government "should stay out of people's bedroom"...but be willing to pay a big price for the 'sporting equipment"used there.

3) "Force women to have an ultra-sound"  while abortuary body parts sellers are trying to "force them to remain uninformed" ..conservatives believe in "INFORMED CHOICES" ..

4) "Force acceptance of personhood" ;D ;D ;D ;D :o :P   Personhood is already obvious by the time they are murdered in the womb. The little child has a different finger print, blood type and DNA than the mother...and in the case of a boy child..even a different gender!  DUH!

5) Indeed it is comical how many of the liberals who do not accept a pre-born boy or girl as a "person"...are still in favor of a law which says smashing an eagle's egg is worth a $5,000 fine and/or 5 years in jail. (What MS does in this case is irrelevant to the subject).

6) It is clearly obvious you have a lopsided view of "states rights"..  The federal government, by the constitution, is very limited in what it can do, notwithstanding over-stepping encroachments forced by the feds over the years..  these encroachments have increased exponentially over the last 4 years.  But as the constitution says..those things not alootted to the federal govt ..are relegated to the states..  States should have more power than the feds in such cases..

Stick to topic, Ironglow - do you approve of the Feds prosecuting despite the expressed will of the people in referendums at state level? Why?

2) Believes government "should stay out of people's bedroom"...but be willing to pay a big price for the 'sporting equipment"used there.

Whaaaat? ???

Exponentially? That's a big word... makes for big number increases, right? Could you demonstate, by example, some exponential increase on these encroachments, with a base period of your choice to compare to... say, last three years? thanks...

Quote
But as the constitution says..those things not alootted to the federal govt ..are relegated to the states..  States should have more power than the feds in such cases..
Geezzzz, that's comforting... so mebbe Ironglow doesn't approve of Feds prosecuting marijuana users/growers where they have state cover in form of law/referendum?

From YT;
I'll try to help you....   http://www.ehow.com/how_10029353_describe-curve-exponential-growth.html

How have rules and regulations increased over the last 3 years?  You MUST be kidding...   The Grand Mufti Barack came into power and appointed some 32 Czars...each taking over a bit more of congress' options...and a willing, Democrat dominated congress allowed such to happen.  The EPA has brought out crippling regulations, obviously meant to punish those "evil" corporations.
Now, Mark Levin is suing the EPA for informative papers they will not furnish..despite the laws which require them to do.  Holder's "justice dept" will prosecute white-on-black civil rights offenses..but will not prosecute black-on-white civil rights offenses and has said as much.
You can hide your head in the sand if you wish..but others here will laugh at your lame excuses.

Mark Levin says the EPA is planning putting into effect hundreds of new, crippling laws..whether the grand Mufti gets re-elected or not.
   http://brian-therightperspective.blogspot.com/2012/10/epa-hiding-new-regs-until-after.html#!/2012/10/epa-hiding-new-regs-until-after.html
The EPA won't hand over papers..they MUST be hiding something..

Got it. I call BS on your claim of federal [that]encroachments have increased exponentially over the last 4 years - unless, of course, you give the numbers that bear out such hyperbole. Demonstrate otherwise?

No use voting your opinion on gay marriage either as it is a done deal. Your vote means nothing. The States have the right to do what the Fed tells them and little else.

Herein lies the crux of the whole matter.........we do NOT accept the same sources of information as true, we do NOT agree to the same premise to start from, we do NOT have the same values, principles and goals. What we MAY be able to agree on is that we will NOT tolerate others being in control of our individual lives. That we each will pursue our disparate goals and ends to the best of our ability and the limits of our capacity. When time ends we will all attend the skating party in hell, because that will be the point at which we agree. Meanwhile, we have to do something with our spare time. If we were closer together we could play pinochle. Who's play is it?

You spelled "Patriot Act" wrong...

Regardless of party, the executive has far exceeded its powers over the past 30+ years. This is due, in part, to the under representation of the people in the legislative branch. Given the US population, we should have far more than 435 representatives.

The DEA should be disbanded. They still count their own effectiveness as the tonnage of drugs they bust every year. If you take marijuana out of their figures, they've suddenly busted less than 1% of what they did last year. That counts ALL the heroine, ALL the cocaine, ALL the meth, and ALL the prescription drugs.  :o

And Homeland Security gave the feds a list of powers that looks suspiciously like the list of rights infringements that got Tricky Dick impeached. Thanks again, GW.  ::)

All modern societal problems are to be traced back to George Bush we get it there CDQ. Will Dear Leader get this problem solved? Will his lap dog Senate ( Ya gotta like that eh?)do anything to change this policy? There is plenty of blame to go around when that lousy Dept is mentioned.

Real good, what kind of government allows one of its agency's to threaten people like this ?
It isn't so much about the pot issue, as it is about these guys acting and sounding like the SS.
A simple it's against federal law at this time and we will continue to enforce that law until at a time    we are ordered not to. Would get the message across just fine without us having to listen to a bunch  of oinking and chest beating.

All I'm saying is that if you give these extreme powers to your guy while he is the top dog, you're also giving those same powers to the other side if and when they win the next election, so you should be very careful about giving ANY government official that kind of power. Like Leno says sometimes, "What did you THINK was going to happen?"  :)

"Real Conservatives" agree with Barack Hussein Obama and the U.N. when it comes to drug prohibition and states rights.
"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."

---- William Pitt (the Younger), Speech in the House of Commons, November 18, 1783
