While news media ignored the American Indians while giving a lot of time to Blacks, Latinos and other minorities that they considered important, he helped keep the American Indians on the face of the map.

IIRC he was one of the leaders at Wounded Knee, was he the one in the photo brandishing an AK47, before anyone except military personnel knew what it was?

Good Libertarian, Mr Means... that's enough to make me favor him. Plus, I liked the way he scuppered Magua/Wes Studi in Last of the Mohicans.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.
