Re-blueing front sight
« on: October 24, 2012, 04:14:36 AM »
Hi all,

I want to re-blue the top of the front sight of my Ruger BH but have never done it before (it was used and I scraped off some yellow paint that was on the front blade). Are there any tricks or preparations I should know about? Any particular brand of blueing that you all like?

I think the sight is removable. If it is I often blue tiny parts by oiling them and heating them till they turn blue and then reoiling them.

Most cold blues require a clean oil free surface except OxphoBlue from Brownells. Clean is still good but oil on the surface (a little anyway) is not a problem. I usually heat the part with an electric heat gun to speed the reaction and just follow the instructions, especially burnishing the freshly blued and dried surface..

Birchwood Casey Touch up Pen works good for small Items.  It's cold blue, but it blends well.
