Getting that death smell out
« on: October 25, 2012, 12:07:09 PM »
Just hacksawed off some deer antlers from some pretty ripe fellows killed on some RR tracks, first I tried to cut a head off with my wood handled Opinel knife but no go at the back bone, so I came back with hacksaw. My question is the knife still stinks after a hot water bath with dish detergent and a WD-40 bath. Also, the antlers still stink after a bath in bleach water and a bake in the sun. Any ideas how to freshen things up? Thanks!

So far all I can come up is a bag with antlers, knife and a bowl of vinegar, or an ionizer up on full in front of them. The latter I will have to wait to do when my wife is at work, she hates the smell of an ionizer. Hope to get them cleaned up to sell or trade at the next gun show.  8)

I actually see as the antlers dry out, the smell less. As for the knife, it is getting less with time. Nasty smell to say the least!  :-X

Borax is the best.  It's still sold, and it is what is recommended when you do a rack mount yourself.

Smell did go away from the knife and sold the antlers. Life is good!  8)
