AARP surprise!
« on: February 10, 2004, 11:47:35 AM »
This from the Feb. AARP Bulletin:
Guess Who Are the Big Gun Owners Now?
It's a surprising trend: People age 65 and older are now the citizens most likely to own a gun.  "Our latest survey shows 37 % of all Americans age 65 and older personally own a gun," says Tom Smith, who directs the General Social Survey at the Univ. of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center.  He says this age bracket's rate of ownership began to rise an the late 1990's and by 2002 overtook younger groups by a significant margin.  More research is needed to determine why older people own the most firearms: It may be because younger Americans are buying fewer guns.
The blurb is accompanied by a photo of Granny holding a double barrel hammer gun.
The caption states: "A woman checks out a rifle at a show in Orlando, Fla, for gun enthusiasts."
Obviously, they don't know their guns, AND they just couldn't bear to use that evil word, gunshow.
They also must not be able to reconcile their policy with the intersts of their own membership.
Perhaps more research will provide the answers that they could live with.
