Resizing leather holsters
« on: October 27, 2012, 02:42:48 PM »
Hi guys :)    I have a couple of holsters that fit pretty good but a little tight in the end.  How can I make the bottom of the holster stretch to fit?  Is there some type of leather conditioner that would stretch the leather and not discolor the holster?

Thank you for the help!

I resized one to fit a ruger SS,  I dampened the leather, a little wetter in the tightest area, then wrapped two layers of saran-wrap over the gun and jammed it in the holster.  then put in a cool place to slowly dry.  treated it with saddle soap and lived happily ever after.

That'll work.

Isopropyl alcohol will do the job quicker than water.

When I bought a Sig Pro they did not make a holster for it.  I bought a holster for a Sig P229 (aboutthe same size)
I took the gun sprayed it with T-9 (a spray wax like sheath by Beachwood casey) and let it dry. Got a pot out and filled it with hot tap water and then submerged the holster for a while and then stuck the gun in the holster and streached the snap to fit.
and put it on my belt and walked around the house doing chores as it dried.  It now fits and works well with that holster.

Plain old tap water is all you need. Alcohol may discolor the leather as most dye is alcohol based. Oil your gun and wrap it is plastic wrap ,then place the gun in the (WET) holster, make sure the fibers of the leather are (WET) and take a BONING tool, this is a rounded tool and rub with lite pressure around the area that needs to strech. Then allow it to dry ,It may take a day or two. Slow dry it, no heat .This is how I form all my leather holsters .   26-t
