Yes, and because we have so much natural gas from fracking, the price is as low as it was in the 1980's, about half what it was from before fracking. Hmmm, drilling and fracking must have worked. My company drills and fracks. Well, we aren't big oil, we only have about 1,500 employees. Most work is done with private contractors and wildcatters, not big oil. There are over 50,000 natural gas companies in America. Doesn't sound like big corporations to me. Most are medium sized. Oil is similar. There are a lot of private drillers. Big oil just pays for the oil found, or pays these guys to drill.
That being said, what are you going to do with 214 million gas and diesel vehicles? What are you going to do with fuel oil ships? What are you going to do with diesel trains and trucks? We can't function in modern society without oil period.
Unless you can come up with an alternative way to replace oil and gasoline, you can't do without it. Wind can't replace it except for power in the plains states. Most people don't live in the plains states. Solar can't do it except in the southwest. Most people don't live in the southwest. Natural gas vehicles is the only immediate way to change because the infrastructure for transporting the fuel IS IN PLACE. There are no algae farms except experimental. Electric cars have too short a range and too long a charge time to be viable presently with off the shelf technology. Hydrogen can't do it because there is no infrastructure and it is made from natural gas (CH4), not water (H20). Twice as much hydrogen in natural gas. Ethynol has been shown to be not cost effective. It is less powerful than gasoline, more corrosive, especially on older vehicles and it takes valuable farmland off food production into fuel production. Algae/acre is about 20 times more productive, but you have to have a lot of water. The Mississippi river valley and coastal areas would work, but it takes farmland from rice and sugar cane production as well as catfish and talipia production. Algae in greenhouses might be more effective because of year round production. Still, this will take considerable time. The auto companies can make natural gas vehicles right now, right off the assembly line, just a few different controls and fuel storage. Pipelines are alread in place in 80-90% of towns in America. Compressors at service stations would have to be installed. All this can be done in 5-7 years and cut 40% of the imported oil. In the meantime these 214 million vehicles, not counting planes, trains, and ships need oil and oil products to keep moving. If you don't like big oil companies, then just break them up into smaller companies using anti-monopoly laws. Prices wouldn't change much, supply wouldn't change much, especially if the government doesn't allow drilling anywhere or pipeline construction to bring the oil to refineries.
Right now, we need to do something, not wait until the Alaska pipeline freezes over, not wait until we are at the complete importing mercy of third world and Muslim countries which is what Obama wants.
Obama's mother and mother's parents were communists, he was mentored by Frank Marshall Davis, Jr, during his teens, who was a known communist. He knew William Ayers. He associated with communists, socialists, etc in college. He studied what his father, Obama Sr, believed, "Dreams From my Father". Obama Sr was a communist, anti three C's, anti-colonialist, anti-capitalist, and anti-Christian. He wants America to be brought down and be at the mercy of the 3rd World because he thinks America was/is a colonial power, controlling the world. See the movie. Makes sense to me.
