These days everything is about BIG. It is also very much about instant everything, mostly technology. You can put out trail cameras and watch your deer real time by satellite, drive out to the stand on your quite electric ATV, and shoot it from 800 yards with an Ubermag and self ranging superscope.
The joy of SMALL cartridges has been forgotten. The very quiet, efficient, accurate little rifle, that you take on walks in the meadow. That you could shoot a coyote with, but not feel terribly over gunned popping a rabbit for supper. That you can cast your own bullets for, and the biggest cost per round is the 3 cent primer.
I really like the -20 family of cartridges, 32-20, 25-20, and 218 Bee. For those of us that do not live in the mountain time zone they are practical, effective, and don't require a blasting permit to use. I was digging in old containers in the gun room doing a little cleaning, thinking that I wish I had a light 30 caliber mold, looking at the Lee 93 gr . I happened on several hundred 112 gr FNGC 30 cal and 115 RN flat base. I HAVE molds. I had forgotten. Dug out the contender barrel and went out for awhile. At 25 yards, resting my forearms on my truck toolbox, all in the top of a soda can
. 32/20- 112 gr with NO gas check, 3.5 gr of unique. You just can't beat it
