I've long been an Old West buff and thought I knew pretty much all there is to know about Wyatt Earp however I recently learned something new. I had known Wyatt, in his last years of life, would frequent the silent Western Movie locations watching the movies being made and occasionaly giving advice but here's something I didn't know. While doing that he met a young actor by the name of Marion Mitchell Morrison, yep John Wayne. Wayne often visited with Wyatt and they became good friends. John quizzed Wyatt about his life and life in the Old West in general. Now here's what I found interesting. John said he based his whole western charector on Earp. From the way he talked, moved, and his beliefs. So when you see John Wayne playing a cowboy he's realy playing Wyatt Earp! How cool is that?
