Alcan Wads??

About 20 years ago I bought several hundred 12 ga fiber wads to try in a muzzleloader shotgun. They didnt work out. I found them in my shop the other day. I think they were Alcan wads but cant be sure. The wads are slightly domed, average .742 in diameter and .413 thick. They are black on the sides and top, but no color on the bottom. Can anyone tell me if these are the old Alcan wads?? Thanks, RamblinMan

It sure sounds like it to me. There used to be a couple of others that made wads like that, but Alcan had a 95% market share. I`ve still got a 1,000 or so of them myself.

They sound just like the ones that I have left from the early 60s which are still in the Alcan boxes. I used a pale blue plastic over the powder wad under the Alcan fibre wad. Using a charge of AL 5 under those wads and hard #5 shot in paper hulls I murdered the the Pheasants in their hay day here in Iowa using my 32" barreled Model 97. My dad's 30" barrel Model 12 shot them very vice also. We had millions of Pheasants back in those days, now I get excited on the rare occasion when I see one. I'll probably see them go extinct in this state. I would not hesitate to load some up using those wads. In the early 70s I switched to one piece plastic wads with shot cups. Those two old Winchester shot guns are sitting side by side in the back row of the safe, talk about memories.

I wouldn't be surprised if those were Alcan wads, or even from Herter's (my pops bought some similar wads from Herter's many years ago;  The idea was to cut the inch long fiber-wads, along with card wads and plastic over-powder wads in making our own "custom" shottie loads, like back in the day when 1-piece plastic wads weren't made yet).
 
Have you tried selling those wads on eBay?
 
Actually I've bought Alcan wads on eBay specifically for the .410 (in recent years).  :)

Hi, no I havent tried to sell them on eBay. I didnt think you could sell wads or any shell components on Ebay. RamblinMan

I recall the VATech massacre and how eBay panicked afterward.
 
 
 
 
 
Still don't see brass and bullets for sale, but eBay is again selling magazines, gun barrels and other "parts."
