best sight paint?
« on: October 31, 2012, 07:16:54 AM »
What's the best paint to brighten up iron sights? I'd like Firesights or XS sights on a lot of guns, but will have to settle for less for now due too costs.

Finger   nail polish works good. Fishing lure paint work good too. I have used both and they both hold up very well.

I used Testors Model paint on my .357 Max Trapper Handi. A base of flat white followed by some yellow. Lasted for almost 2 years now.

I didn't have anything else around, so I used White Out.  Worked great........nice white ramp.

I got some Bright Sites paint from midway and it had a nice color but didn't stick well at all, even after careful prepping.  I just use Testors model paint and it holds up ok.
Lead me not into temptation but point me to it instead.

I used to use type correction fluid, but it wears off too easy.  I went to nail polish and Testors.  Now it doesn't matter....gotta use a scope :'(

I borrowed my daughters neon nail polish...then I thought "Hey, I should try this on my guns!"  ;D
It worked well but I'm one of those sharp black sight picture guys at heart.

+1 on the Testor's model paint. I get the "hunter orange". It needs a touch up after a couple of years, but it's so cheap compared to "official" sight paints that having to touch it up once a month would even be OK !
I use it on all my handguns. Of course they still have iron sights, and with almost 60 yo eyes the paint really helps seeing the front sight.

I am fortunate enough to have a small vial, 1/4 ounce of radium paint I got from an old timer watch smith locally. I put a tiny amount on and cover it with 6 minute 2 part  epoxy.
