Affordable .22 Mag Semi-Autos and Pumps
« on: November 01, 2012, 09:09:33 AM »
Why are there no affordable semi-auto .22 Mags on the market at stores?  Heard Remington recalled all their Semi-autos.  Also heard Ruger quite making them due to cracking bolts.  Pumps are scarce too.  Henry is the only one making pumps, and I don't like their forearms.  Reminds me of those cheap little Rossi's from back in the 60s.  Not a real hunting gun.

I know of several Rem. 597M's around here, i own one myself.  I've not heard of even one of them being recalled and all of them i know of, work perfectly!

As for the Henry pump, RUN AWAY from it as fast as you can!  I also had one of those POS's!  Buy a Henry lever in 22 mag., they work smoooooothly and are a great 22 mag...

The 597 was what I decided to buy, but when I went to the store to get one was told they were all recalled and Remington do longer produces them.  Yet Remington still list them on their web site.

I currently have a Browning lever action and don't really care for it.  I'm a pump person myself.

I think just the .17 HMR version of the remington 597 was recalled. They still make the .22 mag version though. My dad has one its a nice little rifle. There are a few places selling .22 magnum semi autos. CZ is one
http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-512/
as well as magnum research (its based on the 10/22 magnum action)
http://www.magnumresearch.com/Firearms/Magnum-Research-22WMR-Hogue-OverMolded-Rifle.asp
I think theres one other .22 magnum semi (also based on the 10/22 magnum action) but it escapes me. I think the ones based on the 10/22 action don't suffer from the bolt issue that the ruger 10/22 magnum suffered from.

I would have to disagree. I have the H003TM Henry .22WMR pump and it
will literally drive tacks. The most accurate .22 mag I have ever owned.

I suppose you could find a Ruger 10/22Mag for $400+ or you could buy componets through Brownells and build yourself one.

I cant say much about Rossi M59 as I never owned one, I own a Taurus model 72 carbine that Im really happy with Its just as it is + its amazeingly accurate for a .22mag.

I know there are some old  Browning BPR's in .22mag as well as the Harrington & Richardson Model 700 semi's, Older Mitchell Arms AK-22M's (1988 they were introduced)
, Marlin 922M's, BRNO ZKM 611, The only .22mag semi auto Im aware of that did not have any reported problems was the HK 300.

Why would you want to??  They had so many problems Ruger discontinued them!

The few i knew about, the owners had nothing but problems with them...

I was walking around at a gun show a few months back when I came across a .22 mag bolt action, looked new and the action was smooth, $300, I hummed and hawed and set it down thinking if I get this I won't have enough money for the next thing I see and want (don't ask me what it would be  ??? ) after a couple of isles I thought "wow that's a really god buy" so I go back and someone had already bought it, I've been looking for another since with out any luck, what really makes me mad is that I have 500 rounds just sitting there since I don't have that caliber gun.

I don't know if you have looked at them, but Excel Arms seems to have a really good product.  They aren't cheap, but depending on your budget, they do appear to be well made.  ;)

Gun blast did a review of the Magnum research version too which you might want to look at:
