I think most (american?) people are too lethargic and weak to march far, too undisciplined to conduct a co-ordinated raid, to impatient/ignorant to apply critical reasoning concerning aggression (just charge in hard like a retard), and believe in the hollywood b.s. concerning gun misinformation ("knock-down'' power, one shot stops due to kinetic energy alone, people being THROWN by rifles and shotguns that produce no recoil to the operator, weapons that get 100s of rounds per 30rd magazine) to actually be a threat to cops/vets/trained persons IN SMALL NUMBERS!  If there is a food shortage or something else that would FORCE people to riot and form BIG MOBS, then yes it would be a problem.  Like a zombie movie, except they're not slow or stupid, and the defenders would probably feel guilty and apprehensive shooting them.

those militia nuts generally strike me as a bunch of tards.  like that show sons of guns- they like to do mad minutes a lot.  it would be really funny for someone to use that in real life to chew up a house, then realize the people inside weren't hit, and caught them reloading their overheated (stressed barrels, ready to cook off and have ad/nd's on each other) weapons.  or american guns, shooting explosive/reactive targets, to demonstrate HOW POWERFUL THE WEAPON IS!!!!!  why not shoot paper and look at a tight group, that kills things that DON'T BLOW UP!!!!!  how about people grabbing their 15lb ar-15 loaded down with too much bs that is fragile, with no iron sights, no reliability because it's a (usually kind of junky) kit gun that isn't fitted well and not cleaned thorough, no bayonet or even a lug for it, a collapsible stock that cannot effectively bash door knobs or faces, no compensator that can mutilate hands and gauge eyes, HUGE magazine that is far from conducive to proper weapons handling regarding fire or melee and prone to jamming/falling out/breaking and NO SKILLS TO USE IT AT 50YDS GENERALLY.  even offered to clean up a bolt for someone at the range who couldn't get their ar to feed- FILLED with carbon/fouling!  Next time you see a fool at the range with his zombie gun, talking about all his gear and how bad he/his gun is/are, ask about his cleaning gear and enjoy that blank stare!!!   :o

case in point, I remember watching the movie "end of watch" recently, and the mexican cartel/thugs got 90+ out of an individual mag sometimes.  four thugs clustered up in an enclosed space doing a mad minute x3 and no hot casings or powder burns on the people to the right of each shooter???  no one went deaf???  people see a place get chewed up by an assault rifle on tv/movies and think that's real.  that ammo isn't powerful enough to degrade heavy concrete like that.  also how do gang bangers tuck 5+ magazines away without a bandolier, also magazines get heavy quickly.  people making/watching that garbage are at a "normal" awareness/knowledge level for firearms...

also shooting off locks with a rifle or shotgun.  sorry, no.  I remember co-running a breaching course in the marine corps and with m-16s using fmj "mil-spec" ammo, shotgun slugs of various varieties (usually those supposed "breacher" rounds of sintered iron), m9's with ball ammo, etcetera the lock breaks inward and will NEVER unlock.  sure, 6-8 rounds will do the job, but that's a then empty shotgun for the breacher to then charge into the doorway with, also lots of frag/ricochet to cripple the breacher and pointman.  I'm tired of seeing it and hearing about it.

shooting various gas tanks and producing huge, block engulfing flames- NO!  propane doesn't explode unless it's "blown-up".  igniting it just ignites it.  most things are like that.  gasoline CAN blow but is generally very weak... fuel-ENHANCED ieds do produce quite a bit more heat and more brisance but are "blown-up" not ignited, which is why they work so well.  if gas worked like it does on the movies, I'd be walking to work... ever had your car blow up from impact- probably not.

body armor stopping rifle rounds- (sapi plates do), most stuff (even military issue) doesn't stop a 30-30 too reliably and that's a slow round with a blunt nose.

sorry for ranting so much be I hate these types, here's a demonstration of the idiocracy permeating the shooting sports and RIGHTFULLY giving the hard left something to worry about- retards armed!
http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/american-guns/     toward the end a "far-shot" is taken with a rifle, 50yds, wooooo.  these people are your competition from the militia crowd.

I think there will be looting and rioting in big cities, but small towns and rural areas might fare much better even in a worse case senario.

ARs that have all that garbage hanging off of them do look retarded. Usually about as retarded as the owner. I always ask them which part of that gun is the Twinkie dispenser ?
I saw one once that was so bad it looked like one of those old Russian satellites, with all the weird things hanging all over it that you had no idea what they all did . That same AR even had a fixed mount for the guys iPhone and a drink holder ! He was watching Scooby Do on the iphone while telling us about what a retired commando killer he was. All 350 pounds of him, as he choked down a ham sandwich. Disgusting !

Squib, I like your thought process- Alot.  Personally, I am OK with most of the public thinking that what they see with guns on TV as truth.  They make it alot easier for me to defend myself if I am ever in that type of a chaotic situation.

Realistically, when and if the lights go out, Most of the population will not know how to deal with it and take it out amongst themselves.  What does does peak my curiosity is when all the sheeple are dead and gone and its just the real survivors left.  That could get a bit interesting to say the least.  Oh well, America will be much quieter anyways.  However- it will be left with some quite crafty and cunning survivalists all looking at each other. :o :o

Got a friend who is a die hard prepper.  Has like 5-6K of AR ammo and is "ready".  Has the 15lb AR with all the gadgets on it.  I asked him, "What's your plan? Digging in or bugging out?"  He tells me, "Bugging Out."  I ask, "What roads will your travel? major highways or back roads only?"  What he says next is how I feel most preppers think.  He says, "Hell!  I'm not driving nowhere!!  Im taking all my ammo, guns, and gear and walking out to the sticks!!" When I asked how he figured out how to carry several thousand rounds of rifle ammo, he was completely stumped.  He realized right then and there that there was a major flaw in his plan.  Logistics.  I think most preppers plan way too big.  They think that they are going to take a one man army (them) to the fight head on and have a chance.  It's goign to be saftey in numberswith everyone in that group doing a job to maintain survival status for the herd.

From what I've seen, the militias are their own worse enemy.  My sister joined up with one, and tried to recruit me.  They sold her an AR that was probably 20 years old.  I went to the range with her to help her learn how to operate it.  The vietnam era 20 round mag. wouldn't even latch...it fell out with the first shot.  The action would'nt fully cycle the gas tube being completely crudded up.

In the event of a confrontation with the government, the side the military is on will win anyway.  You can't fight Apache helicopters and miniguns with worn out AR's

All the gadgets, guns, or ammunition is useless if someone with just a 22lr gets a lucky shot.
Or they are cunning enough to get to you if your not careful.

Agreed.  However, the vietnamese did a fine job with our helicopters that were flying map of earth along river routes.  Some cable stretched fromm tree to tree across th river played havoc.  They did some pretty serious damage with items as simple as sharpened sticks and human feces.  I think survival is using what is around you and thinking outside the box.  However, it's pretty hard to thwart a B52 carpet bombing run...LOL

I guess I could be wrong, I was once unless I am mistaken...but I can't see the US military turning against the populace on a large scale.  Some, esp. younger men could panic in a bad situation...(Kent State), but by and large I just can't see it happening.

I can see sections of the American populace turning on each other however, esp. the have nots against the supposed haves.

We have about a 2 week supply of food in the chain at any one time in this country, and about 45% or more is imported.  A shutdown of the transportation system for just a short while could create havoc on a major scale.  Just look at the pictures of the store shelves in the NY, NJ area prior to the storm.

I would like to think the populace would come together and help one another to get by....but this ain't my Daddy's America anymore I fear....nor mine.

Problem with the civil war theory when comparing it to this scenareo is that the north and south had real armies.  Calvary, cannons, gatlin guns, and I believe both had some sort of a navy.  IDK, Im not a civil war buff.  At any rate,  It was kind of a fair fight.  I just dont see Billy Jo Ray taking his bass boat and matching firepower with an assult boat full of SEALs.  A resistance will never beat an army head on.  Guerrilla tactics must be employed.  1. Strike hard and fast. 2. Immediatly Leave the AO. 3.  Blend in with the rest of the herd.  Repeat steps 1-3 until desired results are acheived.  I has worked quite well for several countries thoughout history when going up against an invading force.

And I completely agree that there is no way in hell out entire military would all warm and fuzzy about going against their own.

For those of you who think the military will allow itself to be turned loose on the general populace of this country, do you really have so little faith in our military men and women to believe they will en mass go against their indoctrination oath and attack their own families?  Anyone who actually believes this just as well lay down their arms, raise their hands and give up now.

That actually is an outstanding idea for bugging out with more equipment that you might be able to carry on your back and hands.  It's cross country capable and you could actually pack some serious supplies in there.  Park it in the woods and throw a ghillie tarp over it.  It's small, extremely portable, and can hold alot of stuff to AND keep it off the wet cold ground.  Hec, I really like that.  That's thinking outside the box for sure there.

you'd have to be willing to ditch your gear (after a proper policing), and somehow acquire more to be a guerrila (without dying in short order)

in iraq they'll just dump an ak in the trash, probably not even wipe it down for fingerprints either.  sure the us will fingerprint detainees BUT fingerprinting isn't exact, especially in the field, nor is there a true database in iraq (for id's also), and rusty aks are hard to leave a print on, especially with grimy hands and sand dust permeating the guns

here in the us we are fingerprinted, forensics are highly advanced, we DO NOT have a standardized arsenal available to random persons- in mass quantity to enable a "fire and forget" mentality, don't have dirt roads to easily plant ied's, we DO HAVE lots of surveilance equipment everywhere, aren't generally dressed the same or similiar in racial/ethnic profile, etcetera (meaning we are easier to pickout on the street or on a BOLO list).  our neighbors aren't necessarily aligned and commited to the same philosophies either so "unit-cohesion" would be minimal.  short engagements and opportunist ambushing would be alright but I don't see any real militia/guerrila warfare feasible without a couple hellfire missiles settling it real fast.  we also don't have houses built like fortresses to resist siege.  if stuff got bad in a partisan way then yes militias could fight each other, but the troops not so much.  perhaps the national guard could again become aligned with each home state and regress to it's intended purpose: MILITIA, which would mean a loss of federal power... THAT doesn't sound so bad.

that's my hope, some big liberal type like bloomberg trying to command a huge contingent of new york progressives/ hippies/ drag queens/ gun phobes/ etcetera against a midwest state

:o saint louis: missouri vs illinois, like east/west germany (illinois means superior men.. we'd settle that one finally).   :P

Haven't read all the posts but here is my opinion on what you asked.

Yes I do believe war in the US is inevitable. We're on a slippery slope to hell and there ain't no stopping until we hit rock bottom. Now I think you need to fear your government way more than you need to fear the militias.

The folks who are supposedly elected by we the people haven't represented us in a great many years. They work for the super rich who really control what's happening in this world. I'm not even convinced that who we vote for has had any meaning at all since computers started counting the votes. Computers can be programmed to do anything ya want them to if you are a good enough programmer and the folks who made those machines and control them do know how.

At one place I read of recently the early votes for romney were read as for obama and that is not a glitch that's what the machine was told to do. Of that I have no doubt.

The super rich already know who will be elected. The rest of us have to wait until the "vote" is tallied.

Depends. If the PR campaign and propaganda are as good as the one used to sell this current war to the (closed) minds of America; combined with a little fundamental hate and good old fashioned military programming, sure, I think quite a good chunk of the them would. I served in the Navy with guys that I'd swear would have slit their own brothers throat if Chief said "DOOOO IIIIT!!!! DO IT NOWWWW!!!"

I served in the Navy with guys that I'd swear would have slit their own brothers throat if Chief said "DOOOO IIIIT!!!! DO IT NOWWWW!!!"
I have asked a few marines that I know both active duty and retired, they all said with no hesitation they would follow orders, even against their friends and family. For what it's worth, hopefully they have their own unwritten code they don't discuss with civilians, but that gives me a chill up my spine to think they could fire on their own families.

I wish I could say that I don't see it happening here but I just can't. It's just a question of when, and how the lines will be drawn.

For me, the worst case scenario is a race war. This truly brings out the ugliest, darkest side in humanity (if one wants to refer to us by such a term). All the shipmates and leathernecks with whom I served were all "three tone" colored; RED, WHITE, and BLUE.

I have my deep seeded prejudices like everyone else, but I vowed long ago to the moon and stars and whoever was my maker that I would endeavor to rise above this and treat all people as HUMAN BEINGS first before allowing my judgement to be controlled by preconceived notions based on skin color alone. My knife and my bullets certainly have no racial preference.

I don't doubt for one minute that the majority (at least 55% to 60% of military forces will carry out their orders as has happened many times throughout history with other nations and empires. What makes "The United Incorporated States of America (or Oceana if you read Orwell) so exceptional?

I agree with most of the guys here in the idea that no rag tag militia, no matter how well organized, is gonna stand up to the US Marines Inc.(Dept. of the Navy).

I realistically have no faith in large groups of people thinking collectively given the mental, social, psychological conditioning with which we've allowed ourselves to be bombarded by the mainstream media and the mind numbing glow box in all our living rooms and in this day and age, the palms of our hands.

Yes, there is safety in numbers, but  this makes mobility slow and cumbersome, not to mention conspicuous. And honestly, just based upon many of the opinions and mentalities that I've read in many of the topics here on this site, I'd be terrified to weigh the safety of my (only) light brown skinned, dark and long haired (veteran) family members with the some of the ideology that I've read here in order to risk approaching, even with peaceful intent. And the ancestors on half of both sides of my family have been living in Northern North America before my European ancestors knew the place existed.

I, for one say travel light, move fast, and inconspicuously; avoid direct engagements whenever possible and groups of people in general, make every shot count, and KEEP MOVING until you start seeing less and less people and then KEEP ON MOVING.

Let all the Lefties and Righties and Libs and Repubs and Bible Thumpers and Anglos and Afros and Hispanicos and all the other BS labels and names that keep us divided stick around and kill themselves off so that maybe one day the Human Beings can come back and live in peace.
