I don't see anything wrong with using an AR type weapon for hunting.  223 for small deer and smaller.  308 AR for deer and larger game.  The AR type weapon can serve a dual purpose, hunting and emergency firepower.  Also, they are inherently accurage.  From what I have read, the 308 types are within 1/2-1" accuracy right out of the box.  That is as good as a bolt gun.  Also, from Vietnam, through Desert Storm, to the last two wars, lots of guys learned how to shoot these and shoot them well.  They are modular and can take all sorts of accessorys, different types of sights, scopes, night vision (illegal for hunting), flashlights, lasers, whatever.  On the AR-15 type, you can get a 22LR bolt replacement to allow you to small game hunt.  In two to three gun stores I have visited lately, half their sales are with AR type weapons, the rest is split between handguns, traditional rifles and shotguns.  Marks gun store in Birmingham sells 500 guns a week, in the last 4 years.  That is about 200,000 guns just from that store alone. 
 
People are really afraid, people who are conservative see the government going over the financial clift and failing.  If they can't pay the entitlement transfer payments, people are afraid of riots, and the takers coming to try to get stuff from the producers, thrifty, preppers, and savers.  They are truely afraid.

You guys are getting too weird.  This 'race war' thing may be in the dreams of some Hollywood media producer, but in actuality we all have lived together in relative peace for decades now.  Our big problem is not any kind of white/black thing, it is what the madmen in Washington are doing to our foreign policy, and that is where  Romney would be a disaster for everyone, whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, etc.  Whites being the majority of the nation are the biggest loser to a failed foreign policy that protects Iraq's borders better than what protects our own.  Likewise, it is not blacks that are supporting open border's immigration and free trade that is killing us.  Many of them are on our side when it comes to American interests.  Far more blacks put America first than Jews.  Jews care more about Israel than America.      'War' you say?  Yeah, we've had several of them outside of the USA. Look who brought them to us.

And in the balkins, in the middle east and in Africa people lived together  and once the laws ended, all hell broke loose.  Neighbors went after neighbors over Century old grudges.   
You may think that you are above such things but history has shown that when push comes to shove, you will have ot take sides.  I am not saying this as anyone that wants race wars, but you have to listen to the Louis Faracons, the Rev Wrights, and the La Raza people that are are preaching the "white Devil" and the "Demon Jews"
The longer the President and the Democrats have this attack on the rich people the further and further the economy will fall and will increase UNemployment.  The more people are unemployed the more they look for a scape goat and the easier it is for the morons to sway them that this group or that group is responsible for their misery and the more likely they are willing to take up arms to get what they think they are owed.

Ever time i turn on the T.V i see a new show with people that are  militia,  survivalists,  preppers or someone that preparing for the end of civilization becuase of economic collapse, societal collapse, electromagnetic pulse, terrorist acts, fuel shortages, war, pandemics, etc.  I am all for preparing  for the worst but some of this  militia movement  and some of these survivalists people scary me. there talking about race wars and how if obama reelected were going to have this war in the US.   are not looking for trouble

  Jamal; please note..all those survivalists, and preppers are not looking toward being aggressive..for the most part, they would rather people would just not notice them and leave them alone.  I think most people in a survival situation would just be trying to survive, not trying to add territory.
  As far as the racial quotient..I can't speak for everyone across the country, but with my friends and acquaintances..we do take Dr King seriously.  We would judge a man not by the color of his skin, but rather the content of his character.
  The only way I could see hostilities break out, would be when marauders try to take what belongs to the "preppers"..   ..And in such a case..I doubt race makes any difference, one way or the other.

AR's for hunting , they work it's a tool as for a pack I carry lunch , water , rope, extra ammo , knife and other stuff I like to have with out walking back to the truck . As for war , it seems when folks talk war here they always get to the point that US troops will or won't shoot Americans. Our Govt. is large and powerful the concept of it sitting by and watching Americans fight each other makes no sense. The govt. will be on one side or the other and end hostile actions by the side they deem wrong. It seems some have watched RED DAWNone to many times.
Anyone who has worked on a public construction project in the last few years can tell you buildings are being bullet and bomb proof. The spec. on one  called for the walls , doors and grills to be able to with stand 308 bullet fire for a min of one hour. It was a sewage pumping station. It seems govt. is making sure it can protect the infastructure in case of crisis. Many walls in buildings are built to stop bullets and create shooting corrodors . The hangers for pipe and duct is often made to prevent failure by having secondary strapping installed noted as earth quake prevention but it matches the same Bomb and explosion proof hangers used on military buildings for years. Do you think either national or state govt's that go to this much trouble will allow these buildings to be destoryed .

Not a new topic, but one that always continues to fascinate and intrigue us.  My thoughts are that "war" is doubtful.  I've known many people who seem to romanticize and relate this topic to the American Revolutionary War.  I believe they fail to consider all circumstances involved.  if a war were to break out, I believe it would be bear much more of a similarity to the French Revolution than anything we've experienced on North American soil.
 
It's often been said that "Nothing will ever change until the concept of not changing becomes too painful to accept"
 
Ultimately, I guess it's a question of when that tipping point is reached.  I personally think unless something pretty cataclysmic happens, it's not going to be too soon.

A societal collapse, I could see a bit more easily as a more imminent threat.  "War" is a term with many different contexts that are wide open to open to interpretation, but I think for war to happen there general has to be at least two defined sides to fight against each other, and an objective.  What I foresee from beneath my shade tree in the Arctic is more akin to plain old chaos and anarchy. 
 
I think that right now, we are such an incredibly divided society, we're gonna have to all do some suffering before we prioritize things enough to truly unite.  Perhaps my tinfoil beanie is a bit tight today, but I consider it possible that's exactly what parts of our current establishment would want.
 
I'll continue to buy extra food, medical supplies, clothing, and the sort when I can.  It's just good sense to be prepared, after all.  However, I will refrain from setting out the Claymore mines, machine gun nests, the electrified fences, and the Cerberus Cloned patrol dogs.....For now.

I tend to agree with you.  The Strauss-Howe theory is interesting and thought provoking, but remains a far cry from being a definitive, end-all/be-all source of information.
 
But, then again, maybe it's through our own Bastille Day that the next generation will achieve their time of peace and prosperity.
