What a sunrise!!!
« on: November 01, 2012, 02:06:43 PM »
Went out to hunt this morning, and got in the woods too early...guess I was too excited to finally get out.  Unable to climb yet, so I unfolded my stool on the bank of the lake amid some cypress that would hide my outline.  The sunrise was one of the most magnificent I've ever took notice of!  The air was brisk, right at the freeze line, and the mist from the lake helped color the sun.  About first light a 4 point, (too small and illegal to take) came out downwind and within 50 yards of me to lap some water.  He began to try and get a gray squirril to play with him, pawing and running in circles, but the squirril was having none of it, and charged over my way and climbed the tree I was sitting under.

A red tailed hawk began circling overhead, then make a dive at the lake and came up with a little fish, something I've never seen one do.

About an hour after light, I had to shrug out of a coat and stretch.  I sat until noon without seeing another deer, but I know it's only a matter of time.  The lake is the only water for a long long ways, and it looks like a herd of cattle have been using it, the deer tracks are so plentiful.

This morning, killing a deer might have just spoiled the day...maybe next time.

Ben,

Good to  hear that you are gettin' into the woods.  Going into the woods way before light and waiting for the sunrise is my favorite part of deer hunting.  What ya huntin' with,  Pointy sticks or ??

BB, I was heavily armed with a .223 loaded with 60 gr. Nosler.  Ready for griz. :D   Actually, it's probably plenty of gun, as my distances will not be more than 150 yds., and not likely that.

Good story, you just described one of the biggest draws to hunting for me personally.
