Encore Pistols for Deer Hunting
« on: November 04, 2012, 01:41:39 AM »
Is it still legal In Indiana to use the Encore pistol with a rifle chambering (Such as the 30-06) to hunt deer in Indiana.

The rules state that for handguns, the bullet must be at least .243" in diameter and the case must be at least 1.16" long without the bullet in it.
It's all a hot mess...........

Swift One you hit on the head with what you said about the regulations on the encore pistol. The last few years i used the .243 winchester on the encore platform. This year i had Gary Reeder make me one of his wildcat rounds, its called the .240 Raptor. Basically you take the .204 ruger case and neck up to 24calibur its a low recoil shooting machine. Peanut

Yep, handgun regs have not changed.  I will be carrying a .308 Prohunter in a bandoleer holster.

Good deal.  I am seriously thinking of getting one.  I was thinking between the 25-06 and a 100gr bullet or the 7mm-08 and a 120gr bullet.  Any thoughts?  My initial thought with the 7/08 being a shorter cartridge I might get better powder burn than with the slower powders that the 25-06 uses.

This is something that I want to use in the very flat and vastly open spaces that NW indiana has to offer.  I have a very limited amount of woods to hunt in and I have an incredible amount of open fields to hunt, where I ahve seen some very nice deer- outside of M/L range.  Being a long range shooter, I woud love to be able to use my rifle, but that is not in the options list. LOL.
