Ultra Slug hunter compact 20 ga. or Ultra slug Hunter 20 ga
« on: November 04, 2012, 04:23:48 PM »
Was wondering if anyone has the compact model and how does the compact  22" barrel shoot compared to the Ultra's 24"?
I am having a bit of a dilema on which one to order.

I cut my son's 24 in barrel down to 20 & it shot better groups as well having a better balance.

I built one with a 22" barrel from here. I didn't even know they made a shorter barrel until it arrived. Anyways, when I get time to settle in for some serious grouping I will post here. It does feel better balanced than my BIL's 24" USH.

Have a 24" from classifieds on an SB2.  Thinking about shortening it so my mannlicher forend fits.  Glad to see someone already has.  Light gun for walking around.  Serious 100yd shooter.  No sights, so using reddot, but probably switch to a Prodiamond. Recommend you get one with sights. Never feel under gunned around here.  No griz or buff in Houston.  LUK on whichever you get.

I have compact 22". I added a Thole stock that I cut 3/4" off of.
Great tree stand gun, have only been to a 100 yard range,, no problems.

Only had time for a quicky sight in yesterday and only 50 yards....Remington Buckhammers...but my last 3 shots made one big hole. I can't wait to try 100 yard groups!

Finally got to settle down for some shooting. The Buck Hammers came in at a disappointing 4" group at 100 yards. Tried some Hornady SST's and they did an awesome 2-1/2" group.  :)

I have an USH Youth with the 22" barrel and I really like it. I did put a full size stock on it.

It will never be "lightweight" but it is compact for carry.

I also found the SST shoot really well and have been deadly on a few deer I shot with it. They went right down.

I have had both the Ultra and the light one and for me I have stayed with the light one it is very easy to carry compared to the Ultra I think they kick like a mule but in hunting situations you don't even notice but shooting from a bench that's another story. They both shoot the lights out though. Kurt
