358 Winchester & 35 Whelen who uses Nosler Bullets,Thoughts?

 I know Nosler has the 225Gr AccuBond and they now make the 200Gr AccuBond lighter yet more expensive than the 225Gr go figure lol.

 But at any rate for the .358 Winchester & 35 Whelen is the Nosler that much better than say Speer?

 I was looking at bullets for the two cartridges above with a better BC for extended ranges without scope changes from 100 to 300 yards. Mainly for Deer and Hog.

I would shoot them but they are just too expensive for me in 35 caliber. So far I have seen nothing wrong with Hornady, Speer, Sierra or Woodleigh bullets. The Sierra 225 is pointed and might fly a bit flatter than the others. If you know your drop and hae an accurate rifle you should not have any trouble hitting well to 300 yards with any pointed or round nosed bullet.

I've got a bunch of Nosler 35 Whelen 225 gr. ballistic tips that I'll eventually get around to working up a load for.  In the mean time I'm loading for 5 different 35 Whelen single shot rifles (mine and relatives).  I'm using the Hornady 200 gr. Spire Point.  We've had very good results with that bullet.  Last year my brother shot an 8 pt. at 318 yards.  Bullet went in and out with plenty of damage.  The deer made it 30 yards before it went down.  If you like Nosler bullets give the Accubonds a go, I'm sure they'll work fine.

The Accubond is a great bullet, but I think the Sierra 225 gr. Gameking will do about the same for half the price.  Dead is dead.

     I just turned the tips off two boxes of 200 gr acubond bullets to make them fit in my 350 rem mag. They shoot target nice going to try them on whitetail this year. Only reason I'm shooting the expensive noslers is I'm hopeing to use them on an elk some day so I wanted to iron out all the problems before my chance comes to hunt elk.  Check the overall length and make sure they will fit in the 358 win. they should be fine in the whelen. Without the tips removed I would have been crimping on the ojive now after tuning the tip down to .020 thickness  the crimp is on the body of the bullet. Sieras work fine for me did alot of work with them last year, didn't like hornady 180's couldn't find a good grouping load for my rifle.

I think the 180s are too short to stabilize well at 356, .358 and Whelen velocities.  The Hornady 200 gr. PSP does fine in my .356 and .358, but I think the .225 Sierra is better.  I use the Hornady 180 gr. SSP in my .357 Maximum rifles at about 2200 fps., but it is a pistol bullet not built for higher speed.

I have felt the same way not only about the 35 Whelen and .358 Winchester but also the 45-70. My Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 did not like the 300Gr pills but came into its own with the 350Gr. I believe that the lighter bullets were just too short for the bore.

 My SIL uses the Nosler 225 Accubond in his 35 Whelen Improved. At standard whelen speeds, the Accubond is pretty tough, so might be good on elk. However, the Remington 200sp has a good rep on deer and any 2225/250 is poison on elk. I good good groups one time from a Remington 750 Whelen and the Speer hotcor 180gr. Those hot cors are tough. Having said all that, I love to experiment and will try most any bullet, and I find I can determine its usefulness in a box or less, so price is not really an issue. Most any handloader has leftover bullets from several makers/weights/styles, ha. Ain't it fun?

 The new 180 or 200gr TTSx and Accubond would sing out of your Whelen! You ream it out to Improved and it will nailing deer/hogs waaaay down those senderos! I have found that for the lighter animals, the fast/lightweight/35 caliber bullets are awesome! Same big hole, but tough enough to push fast/flat and wicked on em! have fun.
My rifle is a standard Remington 700 Classic with the 1/16" twist so I have never had a problem getting the short bullets to stabilize. I can't say what a faster twist would do, but I bet one could find a good load. I found that, in my rifle, H322 was the cat's meow for the 200X and TTSX.

I had problems getting good accuracy from the 200 gr. round noses like the corelokt and the Hornady RN. I believe it is, in my rifles anyway because the bullets designed for the 35 Remington have too far to go to engage the rifling.

When I hunt elk I use Nosler Partitions in my Whelen either 225 or 250.  For deer I have taken 12 blacktail bucks with the bulk 200 grn rncl bullet. All three bullets shoot to the same point of aim more or less. For deer I dont think an expensive bullet is needed but big tough animals I think a partition is cheap insurance. I dont have experience with the AB bullets in 35 calibers, but years ago i hit a mule in the spine with a 225 ballistic tip -boyohboy did it open up, since then for deer the 200 rem cl have done just fine.  I included a blacktail I took this year with the 200 grn cl.
