Pet loads for .300 Weatherby?
« on: November 05, 2012, 02:40:48 PM »
I'm tired of wasting powder.  I'm using 180 gr. Barnes and 165 gr Noslers.  Both BTs.

Mine likes IMR 4831 first and H 4831 next with 165 grain Nosler Ballisic Tips (this is with a 26" barrel).  Can not give exact load data because the manual I used 20 years ago listed loads well above max compared to todays manuals.

I am using the same lot powder now that I used back then along with Weatherby brass and Federal 215 primers.  The IMR  powder gives a little less than 1" groups while the H4831 is about
1-1/8".  Never chrono'd either of these but should be pushing 3150fps.

Lots of new powders out there now that were not available when I started loading way back when.  I can only sympathize with loaders wading thru what is available today and the frustration of developing new loads.  Luck with your search.

Can't argue with that.  Did you bed & float your action & barrel?  Or did you leave the barrel rest as I have read to do?

The barrel on a Blaser R 93 is already free floated.  There is also no need to bed the action since the action is part of the stock.

I'm using a Mark V, but your rifle sure likes your load.

Due to my location in the southeast I do not use bullets heavier than 165 grains in the 300 Weatherby.  Heavier bullets with a better BC might give better results but I do not need the bigger bullets for what I am hunting.

My Mark V rifle sits in a Brown Precision stock with the action bedded and the barrel free floated.  In all honesty I have never been able to achiece the same velocity or improve the accuracy of the factory 150 grain loads.
