Mexico negotiating with vigilantes holding town    MEXICO CITY
Mexican authorities say they are close to striking a deal to provide more security for a southern town where angry villagers seized control after a taxi driver was kidnapped and killed.

Olinala Mayor Eusebio Gonzalez says the takeover began Saturday after about 100 people stormed a house where the four presumed kidnappers were hiding and killed the suspects by burning the building.

He says nearly 700 residents have since been taking turns policing entry into the town by barricading streets and installing checkpoints.

Gonzalez said Friday that the taxi driver's killing was the latest in a series of violent attacks. He says Olinala residents are demanding more protection from criminal gangs.

It just leads me to ask- What is a responsible citizen to do when the government can't or won't do its job?

Seems like the citizens have done the right thing here. The government should be providing better arms and ammunition for these people.

In some places down there people like this cab driver are captured for only one reason. And that is to be used as a forced contestant in Gladiator type spectacles for the amusement of the gangs.
And they are death matches, some of the beheadings where a body is found are directly connected to this.  So much for a country that forbids its people to own guns, while the gangs are still going fast and furious .  ::)

(eyebrows raised) anna, are you referencing how fast the gladiators chop and stab, or the successor to project gunwalker?
