Any short wave radio will let you know this has been going on for some time now. And it isn't just the Russians or the subs that are circling in that wolf pack either.
Any foreign fishing boats or freighters out there if you can listen to them are a good indicator of what's going on.

Geezzzz, folks, we've got a lot of navy. We've more aircraft carrier than the rest of the world combined. No country as bases as widespread as ours. None are even close. If you go by tonnage, we're bigger than the next dozen or so navies combined.

we're a'ight.

Just a random thought with regards to Naval and attacking forces...

I watched the Trailer for the new "Red Dawn" movie recently.  It looks pretty lame, but I've gotta watch anyways, because it says "Red Dawn"  Oh how the young NTTM used to dream of running through the swamps of South Georgia with all of his buddies killing all the evile Communist Russians.  In pure Rambo-esque fashion, I also had a recurve bow, and a supply of cedar shaft arrows with M-70 firecrackers attached to them, as well as a genuine hollow handled flea market survival knife.  I walked six miles to the flea market to buy that knife one Saturday....

Ahem...but..I digress...I guess in the latest Red Dawn it's..the North Koreans invading this time.  First thought to cross my mind was "North Koreans??!!  Really??  What the hell are they gunna do, paddle over on used grocery pallets?!"

It seems my homestate of Alaska might would be in that terrible swathe of destruction...perish the thought.  I've long since lost my hollow handled survival knife, but I still shoot a Traditional bow.

On a more serious note, I think Putin is gonna be doing quite a bit of needling in the coming years.

A local archery store owner here said that since the movie the Hunger Games came out he has had a run on traditional bows. In the books Katniss takes down several armored hovercraft with a single shot from her bow. Not to mention her arrows were tipped with high explosives.
Hollywood is on a roll right now over deadly archers, just like the Dirty Harry movies where everyone
had to go out and buy a S&W model 29.But if you look now the model 25 in 45lc commands a higher
price. But the traditional hollywood AK can still fire all day long on a single magazine. Take out any ground vehicle with a single shot, and shoot through three inches of armor with no problem  ::)

Russian subs are circling..but is Russia a "lone wolf" or is there a pack forming?  It seems there must be something in it for them, or they wouldn't bother touring our coasts..
Some think we should lower our defenses b y taking funds from the military..a real mistake...
Obviously, for any tax money spent on a new ship, artillery piece, tank or aircraft carrier..at least we have some hardware to show for our money.
What do we realize from huge sums spent "social programs" which pay unwed mothers to keep breeding, drug nheads to dry out..so they can resume their huffing, puffing, shooting or sniffing again later or any of the myriad of other votr-grabbing games?
A prime consideration by our constitution is to "provide for the common defense"..I see no provisions in  the constitution for indiscriminate breeders, multi-generational welfare families, National Endowment for the Arts, Endowment for the Humanities, abortion, drying out  dopers, midnight basketball or coddling illegal aliens..
After a diligent search...I discovered nowhere in the constitution where one should be required to pay for his/her neighbor's birth control either!
If you find those in there..let me know where they are..

Putin recognizes weakness when he sees it! http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2012/11/24/251518.html
Reagan, even Bush... would have a carrier strike force there at Gaza to welcome the Russian ships.   In fact, knowing that, Putin would likely not have sent his ships.
Is this the new "flexibility" we heard B.Hussein promise to Putin?

Well it can easily be argued we have the most to protect as well. Having said that I could be convinced we can defend ourselves with much less.

We have chosen, right or wrong, to project our power and for that purpose we are none too large. There is no such thing as too powerful when your trying to impress your might upon others. Most of the time intimidation stops fights before they happen, if that does not work total domination is a good offensive plan.

In the new Red Dawn movie it was originally as filmed the Chinese that attack.
So many were afraid they would insult the Chinese they changed it to the BADABOOM- North Koreans attacking.

Hollywood is so full of incompetent ignorant fools, I hope that Dec. 22 Hollywood is under water.

I'm surprised they even used the North Koreans as the aggressors.. after all the commies are the poster boys for most of the Libbies and the Hollyweird elite.....the ones which are not sold out to Che Guvera, that is..
They would probably would rather had a "dirty dog capitalist"..country attacking us.  Hiowever, there are so very few of those left..they would have had to framed a story..with us attacking ourselves!
Hey; maybe that's not too far fetched.. ;) ;D

In your political imagination,  but not in reality. I cannot remember ever seeing a single prominent actor - let along more than one? - promote North Korea as idylic, or as political or social ideal or role model.

Could you name some names, Ironglow, of these North Korea boosters? I'd be interested to see the list...

I can't resist delving farther into a post that mentions Traditional Archery AND S&W Model 25's....

I find myself somewhat surprised by the sudden interest in Archery.  On the overall, it's great that in the age of X-Box, i-pads, etc. kids are getting into the archery.  The local archery shop, run by one of the greatest ladies in the Archery World has been teaching children's classes like crazy, and presumably making a pretty penny.  I've had the pleasure of teaching a couple of my sons friends the basics, etc.

On a selfish note though, it has been rather inconvenient.  I hate it when one of my hobbies suddenly becomes the "cool thing" to do in general, just due to my Contrary nature.  Also, my family and I have tried to go shoot at the indoor range half a dozen times and had to cancel our plans due to all the kids classes being taught constantly.  In the big picture, it's been a wonderful thing.  Selfishly, I miss the days of hanging out at the archery range all day and darn near having the place to myself.

I remember the first S&W Model 25 I saw.  My father got it for $200 in the mid eighties.  a North Georgia PD had just recently dumped all thier .45 revolvers for guns of the "Wonder Nine" genre.  A couple months later, they had a shooting, wound up dumping over a dozen rounds into some guy to make him cease and desist, got sued, huge world of trouble....shortly thereafter they went back to the .45's.

Now I often hunt the gun sites searching for a decent S&W 25 or 625, in either .45 Colt of ACP for a price I can afford.  So far, the right deal and the spare cash have yet to be present concurrently.  Man those things are sweet.  They shoot great, do what they're supposed to, and tend to remind me of a wonderful childhood.

Some day, I'll roam the woods with my longbow in my hand, and my model 25 on my side.
