California homeowner arrested after shooting alleged intruders  Published November 07, 2012
FoxNews.com
  •    This image, obtained by FoxNews.com affiliate FOX40, shows Jerry Rasmussen who was arrested after shooting two alleged intruders in his California home on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012. (Sacramento County Sheriff's Department)
Authorities arrested a California homeowner after he shot two people who allegedly broke into his home Wednesday morning.
Jerry Rasmussen, 60, woke up sometime after 2 a.m. to find two intruders in his Fair Oaks home, according to FOX40. One of the intruders died, and the second suspect fled to a nearby hospital.

Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos said deputies arrived at the home around 2:30 a.m. and found the first suspect dead from a gunshot wound. Police later learned the second suspected intruder had gone to a local hospital seeking treatment for his wound, according to a report by News10.
Deputies said they arrested Rasmussen because he is an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, FOX40 reports. He taken to Sacramento County Jail.
Police are further investigating the incident, but believe burglary was the motive.

If he wasnt supposed to have a gun, he shouldnt have had one. Serves him right. I get tired of sympathy for people like this who have to repay their debt to society.

HUMMMM ! This is illogical. You do your time and you can't defend yourownself ? HUMMM! Something is wrong with this picture.
It is illogical to think that a ex-felon or a felon can't get a gun---well that is more than illogical. It is also illlogical that a person must just roll over, play possum to anyone so that they can do to you what they wish--I don't care if it was jack the ripper.
If you carry this to the end results, how are going to keep guns from ex-felons and maintain a free state? Laws ? Heck fire boys---take some oxygen and think.
This is just more rhetoric from folks who want but have no plan--and--don't think thru the plan.
Who is really the BG in this picture ?
Blessings

The guy obviously believed that "It is better to be tried by twelve than carried by six". His choice, hope he doesn't get clobbered too hard for it.

No mention of what the felony was for or how old it was. A 60 yr old against 2 30 ish intruders at 2 AM?? I'd of shot them too.
A man who has served his time doesn't have the right to arm himself against an attacker?? Some felonies are the pits. Everybody is young and stupid once. Don't know his circumstances but doing some things early in life should not prevent you from defending yourself for the rest of your life. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Depending on the Felony, you can have your right restored.

I know a fellow here in Fairbanks that was convicted of jury tampering, when he told the jury they had certain rights and that the judge was wrong in his instructions to the jury.  He was right in his speech, but he got a felony conviction out of the way he did it in the court room.  After he served his time, he requested his rights be restored and they were.

A violent felony conviction usually is denied the request, but each case has to stand on it's own merits.

Here in Alaska the state turns a blind eye on felons who own shotguns or rifles, since these are needed to feed their families.  As long as they don't do something stupid there is no problem.  But, take for instance the guy who shot a hole in then Alaska Pipeline.  He was a felon, and when he was arrested he was charged with "Felon in possession of a firearm".  Along with many other charges.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Was he the only one in the home ? Don't know ca law but in some places it is ok if others in the home own guns just not the felon . in a few the felon can use the weapon to defend his life .

There are legal ways of getting around it but it's a pain. You have to be able to establish that the felon, or ex-felon does not have access to the firearm in question. Bunch of legal guidelines involved.

I'm assuming that other than the fact that he was a felon, because he is not being charged with anything else, that it was a righteous shoot?

I detest the idea of a man losing his rights as a man, due to felony conviction. Waaaay too easy to be a 'felon' in America. Lots of 'felons' are much better people that lots of cops & lawyers. If you can't have a firearm, you're not a free man.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

What the law is saying is you never pay for your crime . If you look deeper I suspect that many in comntrol feel anyone who breaks the law has a mental problem. They don't fall in line sorta speak. It seems ones mental condition may be the basis for gun ownership in the future . I would ask if ones mental state is such they can't be trusted with a gun is a vehicle or knife any safer in reality ?

I am in agreement that not every cime and conviction deserves to be awared with the loss of right to bear arms.  However, It is a deterrent for some that are thinking about committing a felony.  If you committ a felony with a firearsm, that goes without saying that you loose your rights. Same with committing a violent crime- with our without a gun.

The man knew what he did was a felony !
I uspect he was not given much choice.
Whatever the crime was--it WAS--and a man should be allowed to protect his place, his family and himself.
A sidebar: see how easy it is to obtain a gun if you are a felon. Were is the law ?
I would own a gun and hang the law.
Blessings

So you don't mind for him to own  a legal firearm even if he used a firearm in the commission of a crime(endangering innocent folk........poor baby).  Then it would be OK if he used that firearm against your family.....after all he probably wouldn't have much choice but to do so now......especially that he is now a convicted Felon.......we all have choices.  I couldn't work for 5 years after my stroke.....I didn't take disability or unemployment........it's tough, but you can survive.......He forfeited his ability to use a firearm to protect ct his family.......you are just rationalizing for him.

Sometimes, it's best to simply do what you think right, and screw what the gov't says. They're not right, just because it's in law. Not a bit.

Put me down as being in contempt of rules that ought to be regarded with contempt.

Depends at who or what. I once in one armed confrontation, didn't shoot but it was not a fun experience and would rather not repeat it. If I have a reason, it'll be a solid one.
