Updated today at 6:41 PM (WHAS11) -- Kentucky voters overwhelmingly approved an amendment that guarantees the right to hunt and fish. Kentucky is now the 15th state to approve a constitutional amendment in favor of hunting fish and wildlife.
It was a move pushed by the NRA just in case someone tried to put a ban on hunting. Those in favor of the measure say it will be good for everyone.
At Training Guns and Gear in Louisville many voted "yes" for an amendment in favor of everyone's right to hunt and fish. It's a bulls-eye for hunters and gun owners.
Hunter and gun owner, Robert Rison, said "Yes, it will get more people out especially doing a hunting safety course," when WHAS11 asked if he thought this will be safe for people when it comes to the deer population, even if they don't own a gun.
Rison is one of 307,765 people who voted for hunting wildlife. The presidential race drew a huge turnout and 84.7 percent approved the state constitutional amendment.
Many think it will reduce car accidents and control overpopulation of wildlife.
"Hunting an animal is more humane, if done correctly, than allowing it do die of disease or starvation," said Ken Pagano, a safety expert at Training Guns and Gear.
Critics like PETA say they don't think killing wildlife is the only way to reduce the deer population.
