140 Nosler Balistic Tip///7mm-08...
« on: November 08, 2012, 02:18:58 AM »
Does anyone have the over all cartridge length for a Nosler 140 grain Ballistic Tip spitzer in a 7mm-08?...

I don’t know what a Nosler reloading book would recommend as I don’t have a recent one…

Any help?...

Thanks…BCB

Load it to fit your gun, it will likely be a bit longer than suggested.

Make up a dummy no primer or powder... Then be sure it cycles.

Good luck,

I agree and that is what I do...

But, I was just curious what Nosler or whoever recommends...

Thanks...BCB

I have a couple old Nosler manuels... let me go look...

Ilooked at Manuel number 2 and 3. Your right, no luck but the number 5 manuel shows maximum of 2.800

My book also shows the max oal for this bullet to be 2.800.  My Remington 700 Mountain Rifle with a 22" barrel likes this bullet seated to 2.820.  It functions thru the magazine fine and shoots great.

Since 2.820 seating is beyond recommended I would suggest that if you try anything above 2.800 to make sure it will  function in your action.  Also the main concern if you seat bullets farther out than book max make sure they are not touching the lands in the barrel as this can greatly increase pressure.

Thanks all...

I loaded mine to an O.C.L. of 2.85"...

They are being shot in an Encore and T/C seems to make chambers with about a foot of length to spare...

I was just curious as to what Nosler recommended...

But, the 2.80" is probably on the conservative side as a safety factor in their favor...

And so it goes...

Nosler load data is also online which also shows Cartridge O.A.L. as 2.800".

Since it the T/C Encore you can obviously get away with a little more length, since there is no action/magazine.
