From the article you posted:

"U.S. officials have acknowledged privately that the treaty under discussion would have no effect on domestic gun sales and ownership because it would apply only to exports."

[/size]So, even if this treaty comes about how will it infringe our rights in the USA?

and others note that the treaty could be ammended to include all small arms in private hands. they also note the UN could be used to collect weapons and could be used to check on guns . It could be the begining of something or not.

Doesn't matter Guzzi..he is still going against our gun rights, because the if this goes through, the UN can butt into our freedom right here in the US.
From the Western Center for Journalism:   http://www.westernjournalism.com/un-arms-treaty-vs-our-second-amendment/
Note the UN's very words..it is a measure that would:
" provide a framework for regulating, controlling, registering and tracking all conventional small firearms in the world."
See, the pathological liar snookered you ......again!
 .
Many libs say it doesn't matter that he tries to kill our gun rights..because congress wouldn't let him do it..  That's somewhat like the difference between rape....and attempted rape..        Thus..ergo; if someone  stops the rapist..the rapist should not be blamed for trying...

Good, that way when they do come for them I won't feel any remorse for defending my right to own a firearm by any means necessary because it won't be one of my own countrymen trying to do it.

Ok he might go all out on gun control . Lets take a breath and look what has he done ? signed into law carrying guns in federal parks and allowing guns on trains. He has said he wants to keep guns in particular self loading guns (simi auto) out of criminals and mentaly unstable peoples hands , I think that would be OK if done in a way that will not effect others. The UN ban I don't reall know , will it keep guns from people killing out soilders when they go places around the world ? That might be good but how would it work ? if like most UN projects not so good. Keep in mind what happened to the democrats when they tried gun control the last time, in two years there will be an election if the voters are pizzed off the democrats will lose seats which will hurt Obama. So does he attack guns and get nothing in two years or leave it alone and go on with the rest of his agenda ?

I figured the Obamas would take a modest 15 million dollar vacation to recover from the campaign before getting back to destroying civil rights.

I can't really see the UN having anything to do with confiscation of our guns beyond providing the documents..they are absolutely inept it would seem. On the other hand, hopefully they'll start with the inner citys on N.Y., L.A, chicago etc.. Persuading the thugs to give up they're small arms..:-) that should keep em mired up for a decade or two...   J

Guys it hasn't worked in other country's I doubt it will here. Look at Mexico, upon entering that country there are warning signs telling us as Americans that in that country you can not have any firearms in your possession. Yet everyone still has a gun stashed out somewhere, its the very same in Australia.
There all that was turned in were piles and piles of pure junk.Or ammo that no longer fits in anything
anymore.

Those Aussies are not stupid by a long shot. Unlike what's seen on the history channel, they do not go after a twelve foot killer croc with only a harpoon like Capt. Ahab did with the white whale.
It's the same in the UK, you may not see the guns anymore but that doesn't mean they are not there.
I can not see someone turning in a Luger or a Colt SAA that's worth thousands of dollars to the
Government. Just like when people hid their gold coins until it became legal to own them again.

Now some of those coins are not sold for their gold content, but are priceless beyond comprehension
for what they are. Because in a lot of cases of being hid for so long they are extremely rare.
And the only remaining piece left of American history in that form. Confiscation never has and never will work. Even in Russia, priceless items including some types of old firearms are slowly surfacing.
After the USSR had banned such items so long ago.

Communism never works and it never will, and one day people will once more be screaming for freedom. Could you imagine what an AR Bushmaster in mint condition with some ammo would be worth in say 60 years ? You only need to read the other two books of the Hunger Games to get an idea
of how a world like we are seeing today could become. And how that world and the tyranny that it had become. Can fall 75 years later. And fall very quickly once more in the face of a revolution called states rights and freedom from oppression.

Some people still had guns ! Surprise surprise !

Ban guns and yes people will still have guns. Yes I agree. But the ban will effectively kill recreational shooting, hunting, and legitamate use og guns in self defense.

From the news paper articles I read while I was visiting in Australia.  That sure didnt stop those living in the out back from defending themselves , no sir it didn't.  The only difference in that case was the police were never called anymore. They just found the bullet riddled body of some criminal they had been looking for on the side of the road, or somewhere where some animal had been snaking on it .

It's still the same in some places in the UK,their press just doesn't report it because it shows a complete failure of the socialist system over there.Or they find the perpetrators remains in some farmers field after being ran through with a Scottish Claymore !

If the farmer that finds it hasn't fed it to his pigs or dogs by then.By taking people's guns they will still
resort to what ever is necessary to defend themselves. Even if that means going medieval on an intruder, which at times it might be better to have been shot!

not affecting "domestic" weapon sales is probably misconstrued to mean not affecting those weapons manufactured AND distributed here, I'm pretty sure it WOULD affect imports to us though, which means domestic sales (from foreigners).  I doubt that it would really stop legal imports though, just jack the prices up, possibly add some registration nonsense.  I like cz personally, I hope it doesn't.  also, american guns would shoot up in cost due to a lack of competition overnight (and I wonder if the NRA wouldn't let that roll through congress too).

sniper rifles don't work without snipers... I don't think people get that.  a marksman is NOT a sniper.  snipers are urban benchrest shooters, set up in an elevated position, and shooting through black mesh screens, in a blacked out room, preferably at high noon (when they can see out from the darkness of the shoot room and outsiders cannot see in or see the flash), at a target that is ranged and evaluated ahead of time.  they also have help, they don't do it all, they're supported centerpieces in an overall battleplan (similiar to mortars but precision versus area of effect).  it's not average joe hanging out a window doing kentucky windage.  a fireteam does security while a spotter or two coach and support the shooter.  at least that's how the corps does it... maybe tea party guys and disgruntled muslims are good enough they don't need help?! don't democrats have more important and LIKELY things to worry about like housefires caused by faulty wiring, or pregnant women smoking?  how about stairs with steps that aren't long enough- I hate having my heels hanging off when my shoes are wet.  I wonder how many people die from that a year.

Squib,

You really need to read "Enemy at the Gates" before you try to define what is, or is not, a sniper.
